Glenz grabs a $4,000 check with Challenge Series win Friday at Red Cedar Speedway

MENOMONIE, WI (August 7) - The Structural Buildings WISSOTA Late Model Challenge Series paid a visit to Red Cedar Speedway Friday night, with Jesse Glenz topping the $4,000 headliner.

Other winners in WISSOTA Dirt Track Series action included Shane Sabraski in the Modifieds, and Brandon Jensen in the Midwest Mods.

An incredibly stout field of 37 WISSOTA Late Model competitors were on hand, with 2025 winner Glenz starting the night by setting fast time with a lap of 15.496 seconds around the clay oval.

Glenz and James Giossi earned the front row for the night’s $4,000 to win, 40-lap feature event. Glenz raced into the lead from the pole and had the upper hand as the field rumbled into the first set of turns. A quick caution for a multi-car tangle in turn one slowed the action on the opening lap and reset the field for a second try at a clean start.

The second start worked better and Glenz once again took control on the opening lap and began to set the pace out front, while Giossi and Ashley Anderson were locked in battle for second early, with Kevin Burdick and Kevin Eder racing hard for fourth just behind.

Glenz ran out front basically uncontested for the first eight laps until the back of the field came into play. As he worked his way through the slower cars, Giossi - who was holding off Anderson - was able to roll up on Glenz and pressure him for the lead. Glenz was able to get by the first two lapped cars on laps eight and 10, while holding off Giossi’s advances at the same time.

As the race worked toward the halfway point, Glenz had to work hard to get by the third slower car just prior to the 20-lap marker, but once he did, he was able to walk away from the field over the next dozen or so laps.

Anderson was able to finally work by Giossi into the runner-up spot as Glenz worked through traffic. Once Anderson got a clear track, he was able to cut Glenz’s advantage down as the laps wound down.

Glenz got to the back of the final slower car that he would need to deal with around lap 25 and with the preferred groove around the bottom, he had to work hard to get by on lap 34. Once he did, he raced off to complete the perfect night, setting fast time, winning his heat race and leading every lap to win the sixth career Challenge Series feature.

The remainder of the top five at the line were Anderson, Giossi, Burdick and Eder.

Steve Hallquist was the early leader in the WISSOTA Modified feature, ahead of Dylan Goettl, Shane Sabraski, Nick Ayotte and Blake Adams in the initial top five. A caution for Justin Weinberger fell with just one lap scored.

Back under green, Sabraski had a healthy restart and took the lead, immediately putting distance on the field, with Hallquist and Goettl in second and third, and Adams getting by Ayotte to fourth. Another caution for debris regrouped the field, and a caution fell on the ensuing restart farther back in the pack, as elbows were thrown as the green dropped in the front of the field.

Sabraski led on the next successful restart, while Mike Anderson was on the move, going three wide with Hallquist and Ayotte behind Goettl in second. Anderson took the spot, as Ayotte settled into fourth and Hallquist slipped back to fifth.

At the halfway point, Anderson pulled to the bumper of Goettl, while Sabraski worked his way through lapped traffic. Anderson was finally able to secure second behind Sabraski with two to go. No one could stop the No. 7a, whose advantage was more than 8 seconds ahead of Anderson, Goettl, Ayotte, and Adams in the top five.

Travis Anderson was the early leader in the WISSOTA Midwest Mod feature, as Brandon Jensen and Blake Adams battled back and forth for second. With two laps complete, Anderson dipped into the infield and off the track, handing the lead to Jensen. Behind him, Adams was under pressure from Koehler; Adams was then able to pull away from Koehler and set chase after Jensen.

With six laps to go, Jensen was in heavy lapped traffic and Adams had closed back in before a caution reset the field.

Koehler used the restart - and the high side - to work past Adams into second. He then pulled to the bumper of Jensen, with Adams just behind. Adams worked back underneath Koehler, and both racers were just a couple car lengths behind Jensen. With two to go Adams regained second from Koehler. Jensen drove off to the checkered flag and Adams held on for second ahead of Koehler, Brady Larson, and Shadow Kitchner in the top five.

Tom Karis led from start to finish to garner the victory in the USRA Late Model feature.
