Schulte, Martini, Smith, Fleck and Penney put up wins and pack of 85 kids score free bikes at Ogilvie Raceway

OGILVIE, MN (August 8) - On a beautiful Saturday afternoon, 85 racers signed in to race at Wagamon’s Ogilvie Raceway, and nearly the same amount of bikes were given away to kids for Kids Night.

The night of WISSOTA Dirt Track Series action was sponsored by Jobbers Performance Warehouse and winners in sanctioned action included Travis Schulte, Eric Martini, Jake Smith, Braedyn Fleck, and Nathan Penney.

Fleck claimed the immediate lead as the WISSOTA Street Stocks kicked off the night’s features. Jim Gullikson and Trent Keller had a quick battle for second; Gullikson took the spot and chased after Fleck. Laps passed quickly with Gullikson close to Fleck’s No. 76, however Gullikson came up short when the race concluded. Fleck secured the win ahead of Gullikson, Keller, Charlie Shiek and Quain Busitzky in the top five.

The WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds took the green flag, but a chain reaction of events occurred in turns one and two, causing a handful of drivers to tangle in the turns on the opening lap.

After drivers were sorted, the field retook the green with Jake Smith, Jason VandeKamp and Tate Kostreba in the top three points. VandeKamp kept close to Smith as laps passed, and with five laps to go, a caution was triggered.

Joey Jensen and VandeKamp were on the heels of Smith throughout the final laps, and although VandeKamp gave it one final push, Smith held his line and took the win. VandeKamp, Jensen, Kostreba and Kris Macko rounded out the top five.

Mike Loomis and Dylan Kromschroeder brought the WISSOTA Super Stocks to green and they remained glued to one another during the opening laps. Kromschroeder had a slight advantage, but Loomis kept close and put pressure on Kromschroeder. With seven laps to go, Loomis was back at Kromschroeder’s door when Kromschroeder spun in turn four and the yellow waved.

Loomis was in command on the restart before Chris Wark took the high line and shot into the lead. Loomis held second with Ryan Kostreba at his door when Loomis suffered a flat and another caution occurred.

Wark brought the drivers back to green and Eric Martini edged out the lead as he raced door to door with the No. 24w. One final caution reset the field, and Martini remained in command and took the double checkered flags, as Wark, Ryan Kostreba, Kromschroeder and Austin Blom rounded out the top five drivers.

Travis Schulte, Zach Benson and Tyler Kaeter held the top three spots when the green waved for the WISSOTA Modified feature. Schulte stretched his lead as his competitors remained grouped together battling for positions until a caution occurred with seven laps completed. Schulte brought the drivers back to green and felt the heat of Kaeter and Jody Bellefeuille on his bumper. Bellefeuille took second and dropped alongside Schulte’s door in the turns, but Schulte’s exit was quicker. Joe Chisholm sped by Kaeter on the high side and raced to Bellefeuille’s door with a handful of laps to go.

Chisholm and Bellefeuille swapped second for a few circuits, which allowed Schulte to stretch his lead. With a few laps to go, Schulte kept his foot down and took the feature win with Chisholm, Bellefeuille, Clayton Wagamon and Kaeter as the top five finishers.

The WISSOTA Hornets closed out the night’s races with a caution-free race. Adam Throener took the early lead as the green waved before Lucas Schwegman slid into the top point with Nathan Penny close behind. Penney and Schwegman were nose to nose as they came upon lapped traffic, and Penney used the opportunity to take the lead. Throener moved into second and drove alongside Penney as the white flag waved. As the top two drivers finished the final circuit, Penney grabbed the win ahead of Throener, Schwegman, Randy Jacoboski and Tyson DeVente in the top five.

The Crown Vics were nearly four-wide into the opening turn when the green waved, and Mike Layne emerged in the lead, with Zeke Oppegaard, Abe Langager and Tayler Andringa all in the mix. Layne then dropped to the infield with a mechanical issue, and Langager moved into the point. Drivers held steady for much of the race; Langager topped the feature ahead of Andringa, Oppegaard, Jeff Hass and Noah Rau in the top five.

Next Saturday night, the Structural Buildings WISSOTA Late Model Challenge Series will swing by the raceway with WISSOTA Modifieds, Super Stocks, Midwest Modifieds, Street Stocks and Hornets also on the schedule. Racing will resume at 6:30 p.m.
