It was way more than fair when Wagamon, Nelson, Putnam, Gullikson and Holtquist collected checkers at Princeton

PRINCETON, MN (August 7) - The Mille Lacs County Fair was in full swing Friday night, as 97 drivers checked in for a night of WISSOTA Dirt Track Series action.

After receiving multiple inches of rain throughout the day the track had some character, but the entire night was completed with winners in WISSOTA-sanctioned action including Clayton Wagamon, Dylan Nelson, Ryan Putnam, Jim Gullikson, and Dustin Holtquist.

The WISSOTA Super Stocks took the green with Dylan Nelson in the early lead. Jason Hobbs took second as Adam Patt and Dylan Kromschroeder battled door to door for second. The lead pack quickly encountered slower traffic and then a caution was triggered. A few cautions occurred throughout the Super Stock race, but Nelson remained in command for the duration and took the first feature win of the night. Kromschroeder, Dustin Nelson, Jake Luark and Chris Wark graced spots second through fifth.

The WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds rolled on the clay for the next feature with Ryan Putnam and Mason Bistodeau leading the way. However, as the drivers completed the opening laps, Ryan Mead was sideways in the turn and the yellow waved as contact occurred. All drivers were able to continue racing.

Putnam retook the lead as the race resumed with Bistodeau and Mitch Weiss in the top three. As lapped drivers were mixed in, Weiss slid into second and looked ahead at Putnam, who was putting drivers down a second lap. Laps passed quickly and cars covered the entire track as the checkered flag waved and Putnam took the win. Weiss finished second with Bistodeau third. Cody Giles and Dustin Nelson wrapped up the top five.

The WISSOTA Street Stocks were next on the agenda with Layla Chaplin and Jim Gullikson on row one. Gullikson claimed the top spot and stretched to an immediate lead when the green waved, with Chaplin and Maria Broksieck in the early top three. A couple of cautions reset the field with Gullikson still in command. Chaplin and Broksieck remained side by side a few laps until they settled into second and third, respectively. Gullikson netted the win ahead of Chaplin, Broksieck, Kyle Howland and Charlie Shiek in the top five.

The WISSOTA Modifieds took a few tries to get their race underway, but when they did, Tanner Erickson claimed the lead. Zach Benson slid alongside Erickson for the lead, but Erickson held the point with Tony Konold, Travis Schulte and Clayton Wagamon in the top five.

Erickson began to stretch the lead as drivers in the top five remained close before another caution slowed the field. A few more cautions kept the drivers slow as laps clicked off the scoreboard one by one. The final few laps were completed with Clayton Wagamon in command, and he continued on and took the win. Schulte, Benson, Adam Bohlman and Erickson completed the top five.

The WISSOTA Mod Fours ran a caution-free feature event. Tyler Larson took the early lead with Rowan Tramm in second. Dustin Holtquist slid by Tramm and closed the gap with Larson for first. Holtquist had the momentum to pull away from the field, but soon his car slipped over the track’s edge, allowing Larson to retake the lead. Holquist reappeared and made his way back into the lead as Larson suffered a flat.

Dustin Holtquist stretched his lead to exceed 5 seconds as the checkered flag waved and he secured the win. Tramm, Matt Brenny, Robert Holtquist and Andrew Christenson were top-five finishers.

After losing his race-long lead to Taylor Andringa, Mike Layne regained the spot with a few laps to go in the Crown Vics. From there he took the eventual win ahead of Wayne Nelson, Andy Oksa, Zeke Oppegaard and Galen Hass in the top five.

Marshall Willing was the race-long leader in the MN Micro Sprints feature, before Jackson Geragi pounced in lapped traffic. Geragi took full advantage, and as the white flag was raised, Geragi used the high side to fly by the leaders and secured the feature win. Willing, Leighton Rose, Owen Henrichs and Jeff Friederick rounded out the top five.

After an entertaining night of race action, with carnival lights flickering in the background, the final checkers waved and night was complete. Princeton Speedway will be back in action next Friday night when the Structural Buildings WISSOTA Late Model Challenge Series visits the quarter-mile bullring. WISSOTA Modifieds, Super Stocks, Midwest Modifieds, Street Stocks and Mod Fours will also be in action with racing beginning at 7:00 p.m.
