Doar and Broking bag $3,000 for Friday night feature wins at Gondik Law Speedway; Jensen and Treviranus also finish atop their classes

SUPERIOR, WI (July 4) - The Border Battle was set for a two-day show at Gondik Law Speedway Friday and Saturday, July 4-5, but Mother Nature had other plans for drivers and race fans looking to celebrate the long holiday weekend in Superior. Instead, only the opening night of action was held, and winners included Pat Doar, Bob Broking, Joey Jensen, and Tom Treviranus.

Doar started on the outside pole of the WISSOTA Late Model feature, with polesitter Billy Kendall getting the jump to lead lap one. Doar drove past him to take over the lead and held command for the next 39 laps en route to the win.

Kendall hung with Doar during the early part of the feature, while fifth-starter Shane Sabraski gradually moved forward to take second by the halfway point of the race. Jeff Provinzino and Kevin Eder were also in the top five until that time.

Sabraski moved in on the leader, as Doar and Sabraski moved away from the field. Twelfth-starter Jeff Massingill and ninth-starter Darrell Nelson had also began to make headway through the field.

Following two late-race yellows, Sabraski was able to challenge Doar. Doar continued to roll through the corners, however, and pulled away from Sabraski once again, while Nelson started to fade. Doar had a comfortable lead ahead of Sabraski at the finish to collect the $3,000. Provinzino and Massingill drove consistent races to finish next in line, with Nelson hanging on for fifth.

The WISSOTA Modifieds also raced for $3,000 to win, with polesitter Andrew Mackey the early leader. Bob Broking moved forward and by driving deep into the corners, was able to overtake Mackey and grab the lead.

Mackey was still second at the halfway point of the race, but Darrell Nelson and Don Eischens were both moving forward. Nelson grabbed second from Mackey at the 20-lap mark, with Eischens following through as well.

There were two late yellows that almost cost Broking the win; on the first Nelson nearly got past him, but Broking was able to fight him off. Following the second yellow, the leaders were three wide on lap 24, with Eischens squeaking into the top spot for one lap before Broking was able to out-accelerate him down the back chute. Eischens hung right with Broking, but Broking held on for the win. Nelson slipped back a little, but settled for third with Mackey and Ryan Gierke completing the top five.

Joey Jensen (Tim Hunt Photo)

Joey Jensen had a terrific Border Battle 2025, with two feature wins - coming in the WISSOTA Midwest Mod and Super Stock features.

Ryan Savoy led from the get-go in the Midwest Mod feature, touring the speedway out front for 13 laps. Jensen gradually tracked him down and then used the high line to drive past him in the corners and take over the lead.

Jensen was not out of the woods quite yet, though, as he had to survive a stiff challenge from Jason VandeKamp to take the win. Three yellow flags for spins in the last three laps kept things tense. Jensen hung on for the victory ahead of VandeKamp, Tyler Vernon, David Simpson and 14th-starter Cole Boston.

Joey Jensen (Tim Hunt Photo)

Jensen then made easier work of the field in the WISSOTA Super Stock feature. Andy Grymala was the early leader and managed the top spot for six laps. Jensen, who started third, cleared the traffic and drove to the high side of the track. He then sped past Grymala and away into the night.

By the checkered flag, Jensen had built nearly a full straightaway over the field. Sabraski came from eighth to finish third behind Grymala. Matt Deragon and D.J. Keeler were top-five finishers.

In the WISSOTA Pure Stock feature Rob Grabon and George Richards raced wheel to wheel, with Grabon slightly in front but never having more than a fender length advantage. He was running the high side of the track, and on lap six Richards drove under him to take over the lead.

Tom Treviranus (Tim Hunt Photo)

Treviranus ran second to that duo through the first half of the race with Eric Crosby and Shane Basina next in line. However, Treviranus showed lots of speed and on lap 11, he got past Grabon for second; one lap later he passed Richards for the lead.

One more caution bunched the field and Crosby benefitted, charging up to second and pressuring Treviranus for the lead. Treviranus was up to the challenge however, and drove home to take the victory. Richards settled for third with Basina nipping Grabon for a spot on the last lap.
