On Meet The Drivers Night at Proctor, biggest grins worn by Peterlin, Sabraski, McFadden, Jensen, Richards and Gotelaere

PROCTOR, MN (July 6) - It was Meet the Drivers night at Proctor Speedway, with a full slate of WISSOTA Dirt Track Series action on tap for the many race fans on hand. Winners included Kyle Peterlin, Shane Sabraski, Shawn McFadden, Joey Jensen, George Richards and Carson Gotelaere.

The WISSOTA Midwest Mods started out feature action with McLean Andrews the early leader. The field was two-by-two and three and four wide throughout, as Jensen quickly worked his way through the field from his eighth starting spot into second.

As laps progressed, Jensen began to chip away at Andrews’ lead. He was right to the leader’s bumper as Andrews began to work through backmarkers with three to go. The red light then blinked on for Tyler Schramm, who ended his night in the bushes off of turn one. He was reported to be okay.

Following the restart, Andrews was under heavy pressure from Paul Ripley, who had briefly displaced Jensen to third. Down the backstretch, Jensen fired back and powered into the lead out of their three-car battle. Andrews was second, and Ripley third. Jensen drove on to the checkered flag ahead of Andrews, who narrowly held off Ripley for second. Tyler Vernon and Garrett Paull rounded out the top five.

Shawn McFadden (Tom Krob Photo)

After a caution on the initial lap of the WISSOTA Super Stocks, McFadden was the early leader. Steve Stuart, Tristan LaBarge, Curt Myers and Sabraski held top-five spots. Another yellow for a get-together in turn one brought the caution back out.

Following the restart, McFadden jutted out to the lead as it was a hornets’ nest for top-five spots behind him. Stuart came under fire from Myers, and LaBarge and Sabraski were side by side for fourth. Myers nipped Stuart for second with six to go, and Sabraski passed LaBarge into fourth. Sabraski then worked past Stuart to the inside for third.

McFadden had the race in control to the checkered flag, as Myers withstood the pressure from Sabraski for second. Stuart and Labarge completed the top five.

Shane Sabraski (Tom Krob Photo)

Sabraski shot out to a healthy early advantage in the WISSOTA Modifieds, as Jody Bellefeuille, Evan Checkalski, Andrew Inman and Blake Adams were the early top five. A yellow for an incident between Darrell Nelson and Zach Benson regrouped the field.

Sabraski led the pack back to green, with Bellefeuille poking a nose underneath Sabraski in turns three and four. Adams and Inman were in a battle for third when another yellow, this time for debris, fell with four laps completed.

Back under green Sabraski continued to lead as Inman tried to hold off the efforts of Nick Oreskovich. Zach Benson moved into fifth and began to pressure Oreskovich heavily for fourth, as both worked Inman for third in a three-wide tussle. Following several laps, Adams moved back into top five contention.

Out front Sabraski’s lead grew to more than a second with three to go. As Sabraski worked a backmarker with two to go, Bellefeuille had moved in on Sabraski, but it was not enough. Sabraski hung on and took the win ahead of Bellefeuille, Inman, Oreskovich and Adams.

Kyle Peterlin (Tom Krob Photo)

The WISSOTA Late Models hit the track next led to green by Cade Nelson and Jayme Lautigar. Nelson was the early leader, with pressure after several laps from Sabraski for the top spot. Kyle Peterlin hung back in third.

The battle for the lead heated up between Cade Nelson and Sabraski, as Sabraski looked for a way by Cade. As the duo battled for the lead, they had to navigate two slower cars directly ahead in both lanes. As they came into turns three and four, Nelson ran into the back of a slower Tim Lillo; Cade recovered from the contact, but it allowed Peterlin to scoot by both Nelson and Sabraski into the lead.

Peterlin escaped down the backstretch, as Cade Nelson got around Lillo on the high side in turn four. Directly behind them, Darrell Nelson shot into turn four to the inside of Sabraski, heavy contact was made, and Sabraski slowed to a halt in the infield. The caution was called on Darrell Nelson, with 13 laps still on the board.

Back under green, Peterlin drove out to a healthy advantage, as Nelson held second ahead of a side-by-side battle for third between Sabraski and 12th-starter Jeff Massingill. Sabraski began to show heavy smoke as he fell back into fourth, and Kevin Burdick was fifth. Massingill drove by Cade Nelson for second, but a caution for Sabraski negated the move with seven to go.

Peterlin led the field back to green, as Nelson held second ahead of a three-wide battle for third among Kevin Burdick along the low line, Massingill in the middle, and Lautigar making a late-race push along the high side. Lautigar took fourth, as Burdick pressured Nelson heavily to his inside for second. Lautigar used his high side momentum to get by Burdick along the high side down the frontstretch, then dove to the inside of Nelson into turn one. Down the backstretch and into turns three and four, the duo remained side by side before Nelson edged away into turn one with three to go.

It was smooth sailing for Peterlin in the remaining laps, while Nelson was second. Lautigar, Burdick and Massingill were top-five finishers.

George Richards and Jake Smith led the WISSOTA Pure Stocks to the green flag, with Richards leading the early laps. Austin Fencl moved into second, with Eric Crosby, Shane Basina and Aaron Bernick in fifth. A caution then fell for Smith, who had a flat tire.

Back under green, Richards continued to lead, while Crosby held second and Bernick was now to his bumper in third. Fencl was fourth and Basina was fifth. Another caution for a Dnae Rose spin regrouped the field with three to go.

Richards charged back out to the advantage under green, but Basina spun in front of much of the field with a flat tire, bringing the group under caution once more.

With the green out, Richards held the lead, but had some pressure from Crosby and Bernick, who were side by side for second. There was chaos in the top five behind Richards on the final lap, as Fencl was spun heading into turns three and four. A caution was called and the field readied for a one-lap shootout to the finish.

Richards led the field back to the green, and held on narrowly at the finish ahead of Crosby and Bernick, who finished in second and third. Fencl and Derek Ament completed the top five.

Gotelaere held the early lead to start the WISSOTA Hornet feature. Nikota Larson worked into second and Brendan Bockwitz was third. Mikayla Labarge and Nick Ruzich were also in the top five before a caution fell for Jerry Adams with three laps scored.

Under green, there was contact down the backstretch in the field that led to Nathan Penney rolling over a couple times. Penney was reported to be okay.

Carson Gotelaere (Tom Krob Photo)

Gotelaere was back out front under green, as Larson held second. Bockwitz came under fire from Ruzich for third with six to go, and Brady Albertson made it three wide a lap later; Albertson grabbed fourth and moved to the outside of Ruzich for third. Bockwitz moved back past Ruzich for fourth, before Ruzich lost power and came to a halt along the backstretch. Bockwitz also had issues at this time and retired to the pits. Another caution on the restart kept the field slowed.

Gotelaere led the field back to green for their two-lap shootout. Albertson pressured Larson for second, as 11th-starter J.J. Morton and ninth-starter Riley Ament appeared in the top five.

The checkered flag fell for Gotelaere, ahead of Larson, Albertson, Morton and Ament in the top five.
