Copp, Sabraski, Simpson, Kellar and Owen outrun rivals at Thunder City; Vernon and Smith speed to makeup wins

THUNDER BAY, ONTARIO (July 2) - It was a full program of WISSOTA Dirt Track Series action Wednesday night at Thunder City Speedway, as the track hosted its normal program and two makeup features for the Hornets and Mid Mods from a previous rainout.

Those makeup features took center stage to start the program, with Tyler Vernon winning the Mid Mod Mania feature, and Spencer Smith making his way to victory lane in the Hornet redo.

In the regular program, Brandon Copp, Shane Sabraski, David Simpson, A.J. Kellar and Selena Owen notched the big wins.

Copp started inside row three for the WISSOTA Modified feature, getting by race-long leader Shane Sabraski with two to go and holding on for the victory. Eighth-starter David Simpson, Cole Chernosky and ninth-starter Tanner Henderson completed the top five.

Simpson led from start to finish in the WISSOTA Midwest Mods, holding a near 2-second advantage at the stripe ahead of Deven VanHouse, Joey Jensen, 10th-starter Vernon, and Kolby Reed in the top five.

Kellar captured the win in the WISSOTA Street Stocks, taking the lead about lap four and holding command to the checkered flag. National Championship contenders Kolton Brauer and Trey Hess finished second and third, respectively. Tyson Waller and Brendan Makkinga were top-five finishers.

Sabraski started seventh on the WISSOTA Super Stock grid. He took charge with a handful of laps to go and grabbed the checkered flag ahead of fellow fourth-row starter Cole Chernosky. Danny Young, Rick Simpson and John Garrity completed the top five.

Owen led from start to finish in the WISSOTA Hornets for her second-straight win at the speedway. Ninth-starter Connor Danylko completed his charge in second, 10th-starter Jaxson Gregory improved seven spots to third, Rick Breukelman was fourth, and Curtis Oleksuk completed the top five.
