Bruss bags up $500 in Mod Four cash while Loecken, Martini, Randt and Tourville top other WISSOTA classes at KRA
By Ron Krog
WILLMAR, MN (July 4) - The future of the WISSOTA Auto Racing looks very bright as many young stars continue to rise up through the ranks of nearly every class. On a warm July 4th night, another one rose to the top, as Connor Bruss picked up a nice $500 paycheck in his WISSOTA Mod Four by outgunning a strong field.
In other WISSOTA Dirt Track Series action, Peter Loecken, Eric Martini, Landyn Randt, and Keith Tourville were top-five finishers.
In the Mod Fours, Bruss led the whole race, with Tyler Larson charging hard in second just ahead of Dustin Holtquist and Bob Holtquist. Bruss drove a near perfect race for the win in front of a very excited grandstand and family. Blake Hawker completed the top five at the finish.
A nice field of 17 WISSOTA Street Stocks put on a very good feature as well; Ethan Iiams and Justin Vogel jumped out to an early lead. Unfortunately, Iiams went for a nasty roll on lap two and the field came under a red flag.
Following the restart, Keith Tourville got by Vogel for the lead and pulled away to a small margin. The battle for third was pretty intense as Kolton Brauer and Levi Randt fought hard; Brauer had tough luck as he spun and was sent to the back with four laps completed.
Out front, Tourville kept Vogel at bay, and Randt and Joe Martin fought hard for third. Tourville took home the victory ahead of Vogel, Randt - who edged Martin for third - and Trey Hess fifth. Brauer came back from his early spin to place just outside the top five in sixth.
Jett Lindgren led early in the WISSOTA Midwest Mods, but on lap three Tim Kanten took over. The battle for second was a good one as Lindgren, Bud Martini and Justin Bjorklund went three wide.
With 10 laps to go, eighth-starter Landyn Randt went to the high side of the track and found a bunch of speed, quickly passing several cars. Four laps later he passed Martini for second, and with five laps left Randt got by Kanten for the lead. He held on to get the victory, ahead of Kanten, Bjorklund, Lindgren and Jason Vejtruba in the top five.
Brayden Hedtke and Josh Roggatz battled for the lead early on in the WISSOTA Super Stock feature, with Eric Martini close behind. With three laps scored, Martini took the lead from Hedtke and ran away from the field for the win. Brayden Hedtke and Zach Schultz entertained the fans with a great battle for second, and Hedtke hung on for the spot. Schultz, Andrew Hedtke, and Roggatz completed the top five.
There were new faces in the WISSOTA Modified field on hand Friday. Tony Schill got off to a great start for the lead, but with three laps scored Pete Loecken was really cookin’ - he took the lead from Schill and never looked back with a very impressive win. Jonathan Olmscheid was also very fast as he moved into second and finished with runner-up honors. Brennan Gave and Jake Knapper were third and fourth, while Tanner Williamson made the long drive down from Ontario and finished fifth.
Ian Tjaden won a hard-fought Pure Stock feature, while Travis Bruns took the victory in a very exciting Hornet feature.
