On Canada Day, the home team captures nearly all of the feature events at Thunder City

THUNDER BAY, ONTARIO (July 1) - Thunder City Speedway played host to a night of action on Canada Day Wednesday, July 1. The celebratory mood in the stands was captured on track as well, as Canadians David Simpson, Cole Chernosky, Jamie Davis and Selena Owen captured victories for the home team, with only Wisconsin’s Levi Randt spoiling the fun for the locals in the Streeters.

Simpson started from the front row in the WISSOTA Modifieds, took the lead a lap in and held back the efforts of Chernosky by a mere .369 seconds in the 20-lapper. Behind Chernosky, Riley Matthews was third, Scott McKinnon was fourth and Tanner Henderson rounded out the top five.

Chernosky drove from the pole of the WISSOTA Super Stock feature to victory lane, topping his fendered foes by nearly 4.5 seconds at the finish. Nathan Roy, last week’s winner Rick Simpson, Danny Young and 11th-starter Scott McKinnon completed the top five.

Davis inherited the victory in the WISSOTA Midwest Mods following the DQ of apparent winner Michael Shalley, who was reported to have a deck height infraction. Stieh was second, David Simpson was third, Tanner Ulakovic was fourth and Glen Brown finished in fifth.

Randt was also a polesitter in the WISSOTA Street Stocks, leading flag to flag for the win ahead of Kyle Bolt, who had to settle for runner-up honors. A.J. Kellar was third, ahead of 10th-starter Tyson Waller, who finished his charge in fourth. Darren Wolframe improved six spots to five.

Owen narrowly grabbed the victory in the WISSOTA Hornets, by just .139 seconds ahead of Martin Bolt in second. Jesse Owen, James Cuthbertson and Connor Danylko were top-five finishers.

In the Junior Slingshots, Hudsen Sorensen took home the victory.
