Rain interrupts racing at KRA but not before Vejtruba tops Midwest Mod main event
By Ron Krog
WILLMAR, MN (July 2) - Prior to Thursday, July 2, KRA Speedway had not hosted a Sprint show since 2016. A nice crowd welcomed in the Pirtek Diamond Sprint Car Series, as they brought in a nice field of 27 cars with both Winged and Traditional classes on hand.
In WISSOTA Dirt Track Series action, Jason Vejtruba was the lone winner, after weather led to the postponement of the Street Stock feature.
The WISSOTA Midwest Mods got their complete show in, though rain was falling; officials watched the track closely to make sure it stayed safe. Vejtruba took the early lead, with Ryan Flaten close behind. Justin Bjorklund came from fourth at the start to move into second, but could not quite catch Vejtruba. The No. 38 held on for the win ahead of Bjorklund. Flaten took third, with Damen Vejtruba doing a nice job in fourth. Zach Clark was fifth.
In the Traditional Sprints, a familiar face grabbed the win - Cam Schafer picked up the victory and added to his list of all-time wins. The Winged sprints were not able to run because of high winds that came in ahead of heavy thunderstorms in the area.
The skies opened up before the Street Stocks raced the feature, sending everyone home for the night. KRA hopes to make up that feature along with the Pure Stock feature in the next two weeks.
