Peterlin, Adams, Stuart, Vernon, Smith and Ruzich roll to feature wins and Hall Of Famers are honored at Proctor

PROCTOR, MN (July 27) - Proctor Speedway celebrated Hall of Fame night, along with hosting the Old Timers/Vintage Driver picnic, Sunday, July 27.

During the Hall of Fame ceremonies, Jeff Hinkemeyer, Jamie Thomas, Steve Fossum, Skip Meger, Dave Gillett, Scott Hispher, Donald Eckstrom, Peg Sweeney, Jerry O’Brien, Tom Esse, Dave Bjorge and Barry Marlow were inducted into the speedway’s Hall of Fame.

On track, WISSOTA Dirt Track Series victors included Kyle Peterlin, Blake Adams, Tyler Vernon, Steve Stuart, Nick Ruzich, and Jake Smith.

Blake Adams was the early leader in the WISSOTA Midwest Mods, in a feature that was hampered by five cautions in the early going. Adams was under heavy pressure from Vernon and Paul Ripley in those first attempts, with Joey Jensen also making himself part of the battle with just a handful of laps completed.

Adams continued to lead out front with eight to go. Jensen was right on Adams’ bumper before another caution regrouped the field.

Vernon used the low side to get past Adams back under green, pulling away down the backstretch with five to go. Vernon was steady out front to the checkered flag, as Adams held second. Jensen’s charge from eighth ended in third, Ripley was fourth and Jacob Anderson completed the top five.

Steve Stuart (Tom Krob Photo)

Stuart was the early leader to begin the WISSOTA Super Stock feature, with Rick Simpson and Shawn McFadden in a battle for second; McFadden took the spot with a couple laps completed.

McFadden used the ensuing laps to draw to the bumper of Stuart, but could not find a way by and Stuart escaped with the victory, growing his lead in the closing laps. Patrick Beeksma displaced Simpson to fourth at the finish, and Austin Blom was fifth.

Following a side-by-side battle for the top spot, Neil Balduc inched away with lead from Blake Adams in the opening laps of the WISSOTA Modified feature. Adams went to the top side and drove past Balduc with less than a handful of laps in the books, drawing away to a half lap lead over the rest of the field in the closing laps to garner the victory. Balduc, Brandon Copp, Nick Oreskovich and Jody Bellefeuille completed the top five.

Kyle Peterlin (Tom Krob Photo)

Mike Bellefeuille was the early leader of the WISSOTA Late Model feature, ahead of Peterlin, Harry Hanson, Derek Vesel and Anthony Woodhull in the top five. Kevin Burdick made his way past Woodhull a lap or two later.

Out front, Peterlin began to quickly eat away at Bellefeuille’s advantage, making the pass for the lead, but having it called back thanks to a caution. Back under green, Peterlin gave it another go and drove by after the halfway point of the race.

From there, Peterlin drove off and captured another feature win in Proctor. Bellefeuille, 10th-starter Jeff Massingill, Burdick and Vesel completed the top five.

Jake Smith (Tom Krob Photo)

Following a first-corner spin by front-row starter Austin Fencl, Smith was the early leader in the WISSOTA Pure Stocks. Shane Basina, running in second, then spun and the field regrouped once again with just one lap complete.

Back under green Smith built his lead and drove on to the victory, taking the win ahead of Eric Crosby, Fencl, Basina and Bob Klein in the top five.

Nick Ruzich (Tom Krob Photo)

Ruzich set the pace out front early on in the WISSOTA Hornet feature. He was able to grow his lead over the 12-lapper and took the eventual victory, while McKenna Folstad chased him to the checkered flag in second. Randy Jacoboski, Bobie Arnes and Carson Gotelaere were top five finishers.
