CRARY, ND (July 26) - Devils Lake Speedway hosted the 9th annual Walhalla Building Center WISSOTA Midwest Mod Golden Hammer Classic Saturday night. Jory Berg and Greg Jose were winners in WISSOTA Dirt Track Series competition.
Cylen Vargason and Eric Haugland accumulated the most passing points through dual heat-race action, which put them on the front row for the 40-lap WISSOTA Midwest Mod feature. Vargason took an early lead and led the initial nine laps of the event.
On lap 10, Berg took the lead and did not look back for the last 30 laps of the race. Luke Erlandson was hot on Berg's tail for a portion of the race, but on lap 19 Memphis Klassen moved by Erlandson to take the second. Malachi Klassen worked his way up 16 positions to finish fourth, gaining the hard charger award. Vargason completed the top five.

Scotty Messner and Seth Klostreich started on the front row for the WISSOTA Street Stocks. Klostreich was the early leader before a mid-race caution came out.
After the restart, Greg Jose was able to sneak past Klostreich and drove to victory lane. Klostreich finished second, while rookie Blaine Barnes finished third. Drew Peterson finished fourth and Messner rounded out the top five.
The Western Renegade Non-Wing Sprints were back in action Saturday. Nick Shirek and Jeremy Lizakowski shared the front row for the 20-lap feature, with Shirek taking the lead on lap one. By lap two Colton Young was in second, trying to chase down Shirek, as Lizakowski fell back to third. Young was able to get by Shirek by lap five to take the lead. A couple of laps later, Lizakowski drove by Shirek to secure second, before setting his sights on Young. A caution fell on lap 17, and back under green Lizakowski made his move; he slipped past Young to take the lead and drive to victory lane. Young settled for second, while Shirek was third. Myles Tomlinson was fourth and Steve Nordrum completed the top five.
Waylon Poitra was awarded the win in the track’s Pure Stock class.
