Veert, Imrie and Weiss are winners on opening night of the Summer Showdown at Dead Horse Creek
MORDEN, MB (July 18) - Dead Horse Creek Speedway hosted the Summer Showdown - a two-day event including WISSOTA Late Models, Modifieds and Midwest Modifieds. Victories on opening night went to Ricky Weiss, Ward Imrie and Frank Veert.
Weiss started on the pole of the Late Model main event, and easily laid claim to the victory. He cruised away from his competitors and crossed the finish line more than nine seconds ahead of second-place Scott Greer. The victory was the third for Weiss at the oval this season. Ryan Kereluk was third in the 20-lap race with Shane Holden fourth and Jesse Teunis fifth.

American diver Bryce Borgen led more than half of the 20-lap WISSOTA Modified feature, but Canadian Ward Imrie stole the top spot early in the second half of the main event. Imrie — who started sixth at the initial green — notched his third victory at the speedway in 2025. Borgen hung on for second with Rick Delaine third, Shawn Teunis fourth and Tony Caissie fifth.
Veert led every circuit of the WISSOTA Midwest Modified feature from the pole position, but he had Garrett Paull hot on his heels for all 20 laps. Paull was rarely over a half second behind the leader for the duration, but Veert fended off the challenges for his first win of the season in Morden. Christopher Leek was third ahead of Memphis Klassen and Austin Hunter.
Gerry Poirier grabbed the Super Truck feature win, and Gary Feeleus topped the Dead Horse Stocks in other action at the speedway.
