Holtan, Adams, Weleski & Smeby smack down WISSOTA rivals at Greenbush Race Park

GREENBUSH, MN (July 18) - Mother Nature did her best to try and drown out the excitement at Greenbush Race Park, with almost an inch of rain just an hour before the scheduled starting time. Thankfully the track’s resourceful crew overcame the obstacle and presented a great night of racing action for the fans to enjoy.

WISSOTA Dirt Track Series winners included Aaron Holtan, Blake Adams, Deryk Weleski and Chris Smeby.

The first class to hit the sticky racing surface was the WISSOTA Pure stocks. Mason Smith and Mason Scholin led the field to the green; Smith held the top spot early on and was challenged by Scholin all race long. Smith, who won the feature with a slight bump and run pass on the final lap last week, had the favor returned to him. As Scholin tried to move the leader slightly on the final set of turns, both cars drifted up slightly, which allowed Chris Smeby to pounce from third. Smedby dove to the bottom and mashed the gas to net the mid-season championship win. Scholin crossed the line in second followed by Smith.

The WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds hit the track next and were flying around the circuit for their 20-lap feature. Blake Adams and Justin Olson led the field to the green. Adams assumed the early lead ahead of Olson, Aaron Blacklance, and Cylen Vargason. Olson then had difficulties and went to the rear of the field.

Shortly thereafter, Blacklance, while running second, also had trouble as his car slowed, and he was unable to finish the race. Olson, however, regrouped while driving on three wheels to finish in seventh with a broken left front wheel.

Out front, Adams held the point and took home the win followed by Vargason and Ryan Schow in third place.

The WISSOTA Street Stocks were up next and led by Chris Dudley and Deryk Weleski. Once the green flag dropped and the field took off, Jeremy Gust and Jon Halvorson worked their way forward. Gust soon worked his way to the front with Halvorson and Dudley giving chase. Halvorson slipped off the track and eventually worked his way back to fourth place.

Gust took the win, but later was disqualified, handing the win to Weleski, with Dudley second, and Halvorson in third.

A stacked field of heavy hitters took to the tacky and fast track in the WISSOTA Modifieds and laid down some very impressive and fast laps. Bill Yonke was on the pole with Aaron Holtan starting in second. Holtan grabbed the lead down the backstretch and looked to have the car to beat early on. Dustin Wahl closed in on the second-place car several times before mechanical difficulties retired his car for the evening.

Behind Holtan, Jordan Duray moved forward and slipped by Blake Adams for the runner-up spot. When the checkered flags were in the air, Holtan’s Ford-powered car took home the mid-season championship trophy followed by Duray in second and Adams in third.

In the Four cylinders, Nick McCann led from start to finish and took home the winner’s trophy followed by Jayme Gordon and Brooke McCann on the podium.
