WATERTOWN, SD (July 13) - Five-time and defending Street Stock track champion Maria Broksieck cracked into victory lane at Casino Speedway for the first time this season on Sunday night, while 12-time and defending Late Model track champion Chad Becker added his third win at the oval in 2025. Tommy Nichols — a former track champion as well, plus Nate Heinrich and Jeff Rohner also collected WISSOTA Dirt Track Series wins on Sunday.
Cole Greseth grabbed the lead when the green flag waved on the 20-lap WISSOTA Street Stock main event. After a restart with two laps scored, Jason Marko charged to second, and worked a groove higher off the right rear of the leader. Broksieck, who started seventh, sliced her way into third before another caution with five laps recorded.
Greseth led the field to the green, but pushed a bit high in turn two and Broksieck shot to his inside in a bid for the lead. Another caution fell on lap six, then another for a grinding crash on the frontstretch one lap later.
When the race resumed, Broksieck continued her challenge for the lead while Marko dropped out and forfeited a podium run. Andy Rossow was into third, but tagged the back of Broksieck in turn one and she spun. The yellow waved and Rossow was sent to the tail.
Greseth hugged the inside of the speedway while Broksieck found speed in the upper groove after the restart; she inched closer and closer to the point, and led at the flagstand to complete lap 11. After a caution on the next lap, Greseth chased Broksieck while Rossow quickly fought his way back into third. Greseth challenged Broksieck to the inside on a few occasions, but could not take the win away from her. Greseth was second with Rossow third, Tony Miller fourth and Tyler Lamb fifth.
Chad Becker (Cody Papke Photo)
Becker started on the front row of the 25-lap WISSOTA Late Model main event and took off with the lead. Trevor Anderson and Konner Sperle fought hard for second for the first handful of laps before Sperle spun at the top of turns one and two; the yellow waved and Sperle was sent to the tail.
Ryan Engels briefly displaced Anderson for second after the restart, but Anderson regained the position and Jayson Good, who started 10th, moved in and took third from Engels. Good reeled in Anderson for second and the two had a spirited battle before Good prevailed in the low groove around the halfway mark. Blake Swenson battled with Engels for fourth before the two tangled on the back chute with 16 laps scored; Engels was sent to the tail.
Good stayed fairly close to Becker after the restart, but could not mount a bid to steal the win. Becker was triumphant, Good was second, Swenson nipped Anderson at the line after a late battle, and Chad Williamson rounded out the top five.
Tommy Nichols (Cody Papke Photo)
Nichols and Terry Reilly shared the front row for the 15-lap WISSOTA Midwest Modified feature, and they battled for the lead over the first few laps. Nichols prevailed on the low side, and Kyle Anderson challenged Reilly for second. At the halfway mark, Anderson was able to make a high-side pass on Reilly for second, and set to track down the leader.
Anderson cut into the advantage on the high side, although a couple hiccups in turn one forced him to regain lost ground. With the white flag in the air, Anderson was just a car length behind Nichols under the flagstand, however a slight bobble in turn one allowed Nichols to skate away to his third win of the season at the oval. Anderson was second, while Reilly just edged out Todd Stark to hold onto third. Luke Johnson was fifth.
Nate Heinrich (Cody Papke Photo)
Heinrich sped off with the lead when the green waved on the 18-lap WISSOTA Modified main event. Dylan Zabel slipped to second and Mike Stearns worked forward to third a handful of laps in the race. Stearns moved in on Zabel and the two exchanged slide jobs at opposite ends of the speedway for two and a half laps; finally, Stearns did not slide all the way up the track, yet Zabel found just enough room to cut under him and regain the spot at the halfway mark. Zabel crept away from Stearns, and cut what was Heinrich’s straightaway lead in half, but could get no closer. Heinrich earned his first win of the season in Watertown with Zabel second, Stearns third, Cayden Schmeling fourth and Bryce Borgen was fifth.
Dean Roe paced the opening round of the 12-lap WISSOTA Hornet feature before a caution brought the field to his bumper. Jeff Rohner bolted ahead to lead lap two, and Nathan Smith moved in to challenge for second; the two made contact on the back chute which allowed Bradley Rossow to shoot by for third. Christian Kast joined the mix to create a four-car dogfight for third. Kast eventually broke through to second, while Smith and Rossow battled to the checkers.
Rohner cruised to his fourth win and remains undefeated in Hornet action at the oval so far this season. Kast finished second with Rossow third, Smith fourth and Roe fifth.
Trevor Walsh led flag to flag in the Gen X Late Model main event. Curt Kranz challenged for the lead in the middle stages of the race, but settled for second ahead of 12th-starter Parker Gilbertson, Tony Croninger and Jeff Nelson.
