Tourville tops big field of Streeters and Vejtruba mounts up for a Midwest Mod win at KRA Speedway

By Ron Krog

WILLMAR, MN (July 10) - A nice, warm evening with a solid field of 82 cars greeted fans at KRA Speedway Thursday, July 10. On track, Keith Tourvillle, Jason Vejtruba, Tyler Larson, Dexton Koch, and Brian Haben collected WISSOTA Dirt Track Series victories during the night.

A great field of 22 WISSOTA Street Stocks hit the track, with Zach Flickinger and Trey Hess swapping the early lead and a fast Justin Vogel close behind. With eight laps scored, Tourville, who started third, got by Flickinger for the lead and pulled away from the pack with Vogel and Flickinger fighting hard for second.

The car on the move was 20th-starter Kolton Brauer, who worked his way to fifth, but then was shuffled back to seventh at the finish. Out front Tourville came out on top ahead of Vogel, Flickinger, Hess and Martin in the top five. It was Tourville’s third-straight win.

The 16-car, 20-lap WISSOTA Midwest Mod feature had a father son duo of Jason and Damon Vejtruba on the front row. Jason took the lead with Damon hanging tough in second. Three laps later Justin Bjorklund moved into second and put some heavy pressure on Jason Vejtruba for many laps. Blake Adams was also very fast, as he moved into fourth with six laps scored. Fifteenth-starter Ryan Flaten had one of the fastest cars on the track, moving into second behind Jason Vejtruba with five laps left on the board. Jason Vejtruba grabbed the win, ahead of Flaten, Bjorklund, Tim Kanten and Adams in the top five.

The WISSOTA Mod Fours also had family ties on the front row, as Tyler and his dad Dean Larson set the pace. This time it was the son taking the lead, as Tyler broke out into the top spot with Dean in hot pursuit. Dean’s grandson Blake Hawker ran just behind in third. Nobody was able to catch Tyler, however, as he took the win ahead of Dean Larson, Hawker, Robert Holtquist and Connor Bruss in the top five.

A smaller field of eight WISSOTA Super Stocks were led early on by Brayden Hedtke. WISSOTA National Point leader Dexton Koch passed him with two laps in the books for the lead and drove on for the win ahead of Hedtke. Zach Schultz, Shawn Fernkes and Jason Hobbs were top-five finishers.

Brian Haben picked up a clean sweep in the WISSOTA Modifieds, as he took home his first victory at KRA this season. Don Eischens charged up to second, but just did not have anything for Haben. Ryan Flaten continued his strong night taking third, Justin VanEps had a great run in fourth, and Jonathan Olmscheid rounded out the top five.

Colsten Schultz grabbed another win in the Pure Stock feature, while Christian Kast got the win in a wild Hornet feature.
