Sabraski speeds to two wins at Ogilvie Saturday night and Johnson tops Late Model feature field
By Tami Jo Kuehn
OGILVIE, MN (July 12) - Racers and fans filled the entire grounds of Wagamon’s Ogilvie Raceway for its “Fireworks Spectacular” night, sponsored by Dean’s Heating and Air Conditioning and Quality Disposal. Following racing action, the night was closed out with a spectacular display of fireworks.
Zach Johnson, Shane Sabraski, Joey Jensen, Tony Jenson, Jim Gullikson and Jody Bellefeuille went home with the trophies in WISSOTA Dirt Track Series action, but everyone went home a winner.
The KME WISSOTA Late Models were first on the program with Shane Sabraski and Zach Johnson on row one. Sabraski and Johnson sped off as the green waved, with Sabraski the early leader through a couple of cautions. Jack Koranda and Tyler Peterson put pressure on Johnson for second as laps passed by, but Johnson held the spot.
Just past the halfway mark, Sabraski suddenly exited to the infield with mechanical issues and Johnson assumed the lead. As Johnson worked through lapped traffic, Peterson was right behind. A final caution occurred as Koranda made contact with the wall.
When the race resumed, Johnson, Peterson, Dave Mass and Kevin Burdick were nearly four-wide. Johnson held the lead, and with the checkered flag in sight, Peterson dipped low and sped down the front chute. Johnson crossed the line first for the win, while Peterson settled for second. Kevin Burdick, Dave Mass and Billy Kendall rounded out the top five.
Joey Jensen (Mark Anderson Photo)
Tyler Vernon claimed the immediate lead in the WISSOTA Midwest Modified feature, while others were four wide for second. Joey Jensen and David Swearingen battled door to door for second close behind Vernon.
After a caution reset the field, Jensen and Swearingen resumed their battle for second, until Jensen secured the spot. Jensen pressured Vernon for the lead and then drove by for the top spot. Vernon kept close as the drivers worked through cautions, including a final yellow with one lap to go.
Following the green, white, checkered restart, Jensen grabbed the win. Vernon, Mitch Weiss, Onyx Johnson and Justin Bassa completed the top five.
Jensen swapped cars and grabbed the lead early on in the WISSOTA Super Stock feature. Tommy Bawden, Max Nelson and Denis Czech were three wide for second as others battled side by side. Nelson took second and Dylan Kromschroeder challenged Czech for third, as Jensen stretched his lead to four seconds. With five laps to go, Shane Sabraski was in fourth; three laps later he was in second and closing on Jensen. With the checkered flag in sight, Sabraski had closed the 2-second gap and raced past Jensen to steal the win in a thrilling finish. Czech, Kromschroeder and Ryan Kostreba finished second through fifth, respectively.
Anthony Jenson (Michael Wadsen Photo)
Tony Jenson was the early leader of the WISSOTA Hornet feature, with Bobie Arnes and Brendan Bockwitz in tow. Randy Jacoboski moved alongside Bockwitz and took over third, as Jenson set the cruise control out front. Jenson drove on to the win ahead of Bobie Arnes, Jacoboski, Brendan Bockwitz and Nathaniel Kinne in the top five.
In the WISSOTA Modifieds, Jeremy Nelson was the early leader ahead of a battle for second between Brennan Gave and Ryan Gierke; J.T. Johnson was close behind in fourth. A couple cautions reset the field with Nelson in command, as Jody Bellefeuille moved forward and raced three-wide with Gierke and Gave for second. Bellefeuille raced the high groove, claimed second, and chased after Nelson. Bellefeuille then used the low lane to slide past Nelson and gain the lead.
Nelson and Gierke kept Bellefeuille close, but Bellefeuille was able to power on to the victory. Nelson, Johnson, Gierke and Gave filled out the top-five spots.

Jim Gullikson (Michael Wadsen Photo)
The WISSOTA Street Stocks closed out the night’s program, with Kegan Stueve and Trent Keller setting the pace to green from the front row. Stueve and Keith Tourville raced nose to nose during the opening lap, until Tourville took the point. Drivers were nearly three-wide as Jim Gullikson slid into second. Gullikson slowly closed the gap to Tourville, before a caution reset the field.
Out front Gullikson and Tommy Pogones were on Tourville’s bumper with the green back in the air. Gullikson raced alongside Tourville, and they remained glued to one another for a few laps, until Gullikson secured the top spot. Gullikson drove on from there to the win ahead of Tourville, Pogones, Braedyn Fleck and Stueve in the top five.
