Adams again scores twice in one night, while Myers, Traynor and Wagner also win Rice Lake features

RICE LAKE, WI (June 28) - After a 23-night break triggered by repeated rainouts, Rice Lake Speedway was finally back in action on Saturday, June 28. It was a steamy night as track officials raced hard to beat another incoming round of thunderstorms.

Blake Adams found victory lane twice Saturday, winning in both the WISSOTA Modified and Midwest Modified feature races.

Curt Myers, Nick Traynor and C.J. “Station” Wagner won in other WISSOTA-sanctioned action, while Cade Nelson won his first-ever feature race at Rice Lake in the visiting USRA Late Model class.

Adams became the first multi-division winner of the 2025 season with his victories in both of the open wheel classes. In the Modifieds, he started on the pole and grabbed the initial lead from Pat Hoffman, who was then passed by Darrell Nelson for second.

Just four laps into the contest, Kyle Helling had the dubious honor of being the first rollover victim of the regular season; he hit the wall in turn three and did one revolution in the air before returning to earth. Helling was not injured, but the car left the track on a hook.

Adams was then dogged by Nelson, who tried to make an inside pass on the leader, but the race was slowed twice more after Jason Gross finished off a bad night by losing a driveshaft, and then Aiden Hoffman hammered the frontstretch wall to trigger another yellow.

Meanwhile, seventh-starter Mike Anderson was on the move to the front, as he drove past Nelson to take over second. The last 12 laps of the race ran off nonstop and Anderson continued to try different lines, but Adams was running the cushion well and refused to waver. He crossed the line with a comfortable margin of victory over Anderson. Nelson hung on for third ahead of a closing Joe Chaplin, Jr. and Simon Wahlstrom.

It was Adams’ third Modified win of the year at Rice Lake and he is the current point leader in the division.

The victory in the WISSOTA Midwest Modified feature took much longer to secure. Strong contender Joey Jensen was eliminated in a first corner, multi car tangle before a single lap could be completed. Travis Anderson was the early leader and he continued to hold that spot, even as Adams charged up from sixth and pulled to his inside. The two raced side by side around the track for a number of laps, with three yellows in the first half of the contest slowing the action.

On lap seven, Adams got by on the inside, but that pass was negated by the yellow flag. Just one lap later he made the move stick, driving into the lead for good. Once in front, he pulled away from the pack, while there was a good battle behind him for position. Anderson fought to hold onto second, before he was passed by Cole Boston for that spot, with Anderson holding on to third at the finish. Cody Cimfl edged out Brady Larson for fourth in what was a bitter race for that spot.

It was Adams’ first Midwest Modified feature win of the season at Rice Lake and he took over the point lead in the Midwest Modified division as well.

Curt Myers (Brent Creaser Photo)

Curt Myers edged one step closer to the WISSOTA Super Stock feature win record at Rice Lake Saturday night. Myers started on the inside of row two but at the drop of the green, he shot to the cushion and nipped Leslie Leu down the front chute to claim the lap one lead. After that, the rest of the field was just chasing the Myers car as he continued to hold a strong lead over the pack. Leu maintained second for the first half of the race with an early yellow for Alex Myers, as his challenge for a top five position was ended by mechanical issues.

Leu continued to hold down second, but he was challenged by both Andrew Davis and Ryan Olson, both of whom were moving forward from third- and fourth-row starting spots. By the halfway point, Davis was up to third with Olson right behind him.

The race had a long green flag period with Olson eventually moving into second. However, a big charge was executed by Joey Jensen in the last half of the race. Though he was not in the top five at the midpoint of the race, he drove all the way up to third when the yellow flew with just two laps to go. Another yellow delayed the finish but finally, the last two laps were completed. Jensen moved into second and Myers changed lines just to protect his lead, driving home the winner ahead of Jensen, Olson, Davis and Adam Pratt. It was Myers' second feature win of the year at Rice Lake.

Nick Traynor (Brent Creaser Photo)

Nick Traynor moved into a tie with Koehler as the track's top feature winner so far this season, as he won his fourth in the WISSOTA Street Stocks.

Hunter VanGilder had taken the early lead from the pole and had opened up quite a margin over the field, until the yellow flew after seven laps, which cost him that big lead. He then had Sam Fankhauser right on his tail until Traynor moved past Sam at the halfway point for second while a group of six drivers battled back and forth behind them.

Traynor drove to the inside of VanGilder down the front chute and Traynor took over the top spot. VanGilder tried hard down the back chute to reclaim the lead, but he got into the back of the leader, turning Traynor around and triggering the yellow flag. VanGilder called it a night and Traynor was restored to the point with no damage to his car.

From this point, Traynor pulled away from the pack and he was not challenged the last three laps as he took the win. The battle for second on back however, was wild. Danny Richards made a late surge to take over the runner-up honors and Tommy Pogones moved into third. Levi Randt made his own charge too, as he came from 10th to fourth, just ahead of Fankhauser at the finish.

C.J. Wagner (Brent Creaser Photo)

Bob Wahlstrom led the opening lap of the WISSOTA Pure Stock race before he was passed by Rob Grabon. Grabon was setting a fast pace and he quickly opened up some distance over the rest of the field.

Grabon was passing slower traffic quickly but on lap six, he inadvertently made contact with one of the slower cars, giving his own car a flat tire. He slowed, the yellow waved and he went to the pits to replace the flat. He returned to the track but was forced to restart in the back.

This gave the lead back to Wahlstrom, but he could not hold off the charge of C.J. Wagner, who had his station wagon flying as on the green, he drove past both Austin Fencl and Wahlstrom to take over the lead.

The rest of the race was run off green to checkered and Wagner continued to hold the top spot as Wahlstrom and Fencl battled for second.

Wagner maintained a three-car-length lead to the checkered flag over Wahlstrom, who eventually claimed second. Fencl finished a close third. Grabon managed to race back up to fourth with Steve Karshbaum completing the top five.

For Wagner, it was his first Pure Stock feature win since way back in 2015. It was also his first win of any kind at the track since a Midwest Modified feature win back in 2022.

There were three different leaders throughout the USRA Late Model main, with eventual winner Nelson taking the top spot on lap 11 of the 15-lapper. Nelson then pulled away from the pack over the last four laps to the checkered flag. Using a last-lap surge, Cooper Sundby drove hard to the inside of polesitter Patrick Kletschka down the back chute for second, with Kletschka, Ryan Howe and Jason McFadden completing the top five.
