HIBBING, MN (June 28) - The points season at Hibbing Speedway continued on Saturday, June 28 in four WISSOTA-sanctioned divisions. Track conditions improved and tight racing ensued around the quarter-mile speedway.
Kyle Peterlin, Bob Broking, Andy LaBarge and Nikota Larson claimed the feature wins on Saturday.
The WISSOTA Hornets took to the track for a 12-lap contest. For a majority of the race, it was a three-dog fight among Colton Lodermeier, Russell Kiker, Jr., and Nikota Larson. Larson emerged late with the race lead and claimed victory in his first trip to Hibbing for the 2024 season. Kiker and Lodermeier followed, while Bobie Arnes and Mikayla LaBarge completed the top five.
Next up on the docket, the WISSOTA Late Models readied for their 20-lap battle. Kyle Peterlin took advantage of a pole redraw, leading the field early ahead of fellow front-row starter Kevin Burdick. Burdick did all he could while chasing Peterlin, but could not quite catch him. Peterlin was able to bring it home on top, with Burdick and Jeff Massingill rounding out the podium. Eighth-starter Johnny Broking improved four spots to fourth, while 10th-starter Devin Fouquette completed his charge in fifth.

The WISSOTA Super Stocks contested a 20-lap fight next, with Tristan LaBarge and Trevor Arens leading the field to green. LaBarge won the first two features of the season, but did not run away with the A-main by any means. Early challenges came from the likes of Austin Blom, Dexton Koch, and Rick Simpson. By lap seven Tristan LaBarge continued to lead, but a different LaBarge had jumped into second: Tristan's cousin, Andy, put together a strong run and though the race was littered with cautions, a green-white-checkered finish produced one of the closest finishes of the season. In a good, hard-nosed battle, Andy edged out Tristan at the line for the win by only .012 seconds! Simpson was third ahead of Dalton Carlson and Austin Blom in the top five.

The WISSOTA Modifieds rounded out the night with 20 laps of their own. Defending track champion Andrew Inman led early, but he surrendered the lead to Tyler Kintner by lap eight. Inman held onto second for four more laps before spinning out and heading to the back of the field. This left Bob Broking, Mervin Castle III and Jeffrey Wood to battle it out behind Kintner. Broking used the high side of the speedway to his advantage, falling to third on lap 14, but remaining in second otherwise. Broking had a huge head of steam with two laps to go, passing Kintner and being declared the official race leader of lap 19. Broking and Kintner gave it their all and raced to the second photo finish of the evening, where Broking edged Kintner out by 0.258 seconds. Wood finished third, 2.5 seconds behind Kintner and 0.053 ahead of Castle. Jeff Wood improved four spots to complete the top five.
