Larson loads up $2,000 after Midwest Mod “Farm Night” special and Anderson gets first win at Red Cedar Speedway
MENOMONIE, WI (June 5) - Brady Larson left Red Cedar Speedway $2,000 richer Friday night, as the Amery, WI driver sped away with the track’s Farm Night Midwest Modified special and memorable milk can trophy.
It was also a good night for drivers hailing from Elk Mound, Wisconsin Friday, as Ashley Anderson took the WISSOTA Late Model win, his son, Tate, scored his first-ever victory in the WISSOTA Super Stocks, and A.J. Diemel busted up Kaden Blaeser’s stranglehold on the Modified class with his victory.
In the WISSOTA Super Stocks, Jeff Eisner, Jr. was the early leader, with Tate Anderson close behind in second. Anderson used the high side to blast past Eisner into the lead with four laps scored, as Eisner was left to try to fend off Jesse Redetzke for second. Alex Myers was fourth, and Thomas Hauert was fifth. Redetzke took second about a half lap later. A yellow fell with eight laps to go for debris in turn one. Another caution for a multi-car spin on the ensuing green flag lap kept things slow.
Anderson continued to lead back under green, as Redetzke settled into second, and Myers and Eisner battled for third. Another caution for a two-car spin in turns three and four brought the field back under yellow. Yet another yellow followed on the next restart.
Anderson continued to hold strong out front, keeping Myers at bay and holding on to take the win by .338 seconds for his first-ever victory. Myers, Eisner, Hauert and Noah Shackleton completed the top five.
Shane Halopka and Blaeser led the WISSOTA Modified field to the green, with Blaeser taking the lead down the backstretch along the high side and bringing Diemel with him into second, relegating Halopka to third. On lap four, Jake Smith jumped the cushion in turn four and rolled; he was okay.
Blaeser led the field back to green, but flirted with the concrete too closely in turn four and brushed the wall, with Diemel squeezing past into the lead. Anderson was second, Blaeser was able to recover in third, and Leer and Halopka fought side by side for fourth.
With nine laps to go, Diemel’s advantage was slightly more than 4 seconds, with Anderson about 1 second ahead of Blaeser, and Leer on Blaeser’s bumper in fourth.
As the laps wound down, Diemel pushed the cushion and increased his lead to nearly 7 seconds. He drove on for the victory ahead of Anderson, Blaeser, Leer and Halopka in the top five.
Anderson was the early leader of the Late Model field, as Jake Redetzke and Mike Prochnow gave chase in their side-by-side duel for second, trading the spot back and forth several times as Anderson drove away to a 3 second advantage in the early laps. Redetzke settled into second with five laps in the books, as Prochnow came under fire from John Kaanta for third; Kaanta took the spot.
At the halfway point Anderson began to work his way through the backmarkers, with a 5.370-second advantage at the time. Redetzke, Kaanta, Prochnow and Lance Hofer held top-five spots.
The track began to slow in the waning stages, and Redetzke was able to cut into Anderson’s lead by about a second with a couple laps left, but it was not enough to overcome the dominant run of the yellow No. 81. Anderson took the checkered flag ahead of Redetzke, Kaanta, Prochnow and Sam Mars in the top five.
The $2,000-to-win WISSOTA Midwest Mod feature started with calamity following the drop of the green, as the field stacked up in turn two. Joe Swearingen was charged with the caution and the field was reset for a full restart.
Just one lap was completed and the field was back under yellow, with Matt Joslin leading the way. Brady Larson, 10th-starter Jake Stai, David Baxter and Mark Thomas were the early top five.
With two laps in the books, Joslin continued to lead with heavy pressure from Larson in second. Stai continued in third, with Baxter fourth and Thomas fifth. Another yellow fell for debris with five laps complete. Another caution followed when Stai, Baxter and Thomas were three-wide for top-five spots; Thomas spun and was sent to the back.
Back under green, Stai went to the top to try the high side and turned around in turn four, and the yellow reappeared.
With the field under power once more, Joslin continued to hold off Larson on the low side of the track, with Baxter trying the high side of the speedway. Larson took the lead at the start/finish line to complete lap nine.
It was a three-car battle for second behind Larson, as Jason Vokovan moved in to battle Baxter for second, taking the spot by a slim advantage, with Joslin fourth and Matt Klukas fifth.
Larson grew his lead to just slightly more than 4 seconds with eight laps left, and lapped traffic just ahead. He continued to grow that advantage in the waning laps, while Baxter regained second from Vokovan.
Larson cruised to the victory over the remaining laps. Baxter, Vokovan, Joslin and Travis Anderson completed the top five.
In the track’s other action, Caden Steffen-Ludwig used a last-lap pass to get by Taylor Mars for the victory in the USRA Late Models, while Davey Pennel was the winner in the Legends class.
