Borgen, McCaughan & Smith dodge raindrops and competition at Greenbush Race Park

By Daniel Wiskow

GREENBUSH, MN (June 27) - With rain seemingly everywhere in the region, Greenbush Race Park was able to dodge the clouds for a great night of racing action. A perfectly prepped, smooth and slick racing surface was enjoyed by drivers and fans alike.

Bryce Borgen, Dylan McCaughan and Mason Smith earned the WISSOTA Dirt Track Series wins on Saturday night.

After track prep, the WISSOTA Pure Stocks hit the track for their feature. They were led to the green flag by Mason Scholin and Kade Leaper on the front row. Scholin grabbed the early lead, before Mason Smith worked his way forward and into the top spot. He took home the win after surviving a few restarts, and challenges from Scholin and Shannon George, who finished in third.

The WISSOTA Midwest Mods were next in line with a full field of cars set to battle for 20 laps. Aaron Blacklance and Connor Drewry led the field to the green flag, and both drivers dueled at the front of the field for most of the event. Justin Olson started third and battled for the lead on several occasions, going three wide with the lead duo multiple times. Soon they all had some serious competition, as seventh-starter McCaughan worked his way forward. He got by along the low side, making the line work where others could not succeed.

As the laps dwindled, McCaughan could not be caught and took home the victory. Blacklance, Olson, Drewry, and Memphis Klassen completed the top five.

Ward Imrie and Bryce Borgen led the field of WISSOTA Modifieds to the green, and lit the fuse on an exciting race. Though Imrie is not familiar with having to chase someone else, that is what he had to do on Saturday in Greenbush. Borgen ran a perfect race from the start, using the middle of the track in one and two, and the very top of the track exiting turn four, and pulled away. Imre tried several different lines to close the gap, though to no avail.

Those two cars were well ahead of the chaos, as many cars battled for third through seventh positions. When the checkered flags were in the air, Borgen had the impressive victory, followed by Imrie. Deryk Weleski passed five cars to finish third, followed by Dustin Wahl in fourth and Connor Graff in fifth.

The Four Cylinders took to the track with a stout field of cars. A battle of attrition ensued with nearly half the field out of contention by the end of the race. After several restarts, Nick McCann got the jump and snagged the lead away from Hayden Engen with a handful of laps remaining. Engen held second at the finish, with Troy Foster finishing third. Brooke McCann and Cory Nelson rounded out the top five.

The Lightning Sprints were once again the fastest cars of the night, besting the other classes by 2 seconds. A lapped car held up race leader Dexter Dvergsten, and Emmitt Isane capitalized for the victory. Dvergsten settled for second, Evan Yanish was third, Luke Hendrickson was fourth and Hayden Koehmstedt was fifth.
