Proctor speedsters and their fans get the green light and the season’s first winners are Peterlin, Copp, Stuart, Jensen, Crosby and Gotelaere

PROCTOR, MN (June 1) - Proctor Speedway kicked off its 2025 season with the KME Late Model series on Sunday night. Kyle Peterlin, Brandon Copp, Steve Stuart, Joey Jensen, Eric Crosby and Carson Gotelaere grabbed WISSOTA Dirt Track Series action.

Following a caution during the first lap that marred the beginning of the WISSOTA Late Model feature, Harry Hanson and Kevin Burdick were dead even to complete lap one, with Burdick gaining the advantage after exchanging slide jobs to complete lap two. Darrell Nelson moved into second, with Peterlin third and Cade Nelson fourth.

Burdick continued to have a couple car-length lead with seven in the books, but just one lap later Darrell Nelson came calling. As Burdick began to navigate lapped traffic in both lanes just ahead, Nelson moved to his inside and was all over him for the top spot. Burdick cleared the lapped cars and Nelson stayed right with him, making the pass for the lead with contact to the inside down the frontstretch with 11 to go. Burdick slid Nelson heading into turn one, with Nelson crossing over and eventually pulling away from the battle.

With six laps remaining, a caution for Cade Nelson brought the field back together.

Following the restart, Peterlin shot past Nelson to the lead and held him off in the final stages of the race to gain the victory. Nelson, Burdick, Jayme Lautigar and Tim McMann completed the top five.

Brandon Copp (Tom Krob Photo)

Copp started on the pole of the WISSOTA Modified main event and was the early leader ahead of Neil Balduc, with Evan Checkalski close in third. Balduc spun to bring out the caution with just a few laps in the books.

Copp held the lead following the restart, as Checkalski moved into second. Brady Uotinen was third, Nick Oreskovich was fourth and Darrell Nelson was close by in fifth.

As Copp got away from the field a bit out front, Oreskovich, Uotinen and Nelson were at war for third. Nelson moved past Uotinen in the waning laps, and quickly caught up to Oreskovich. A caution with about five to go regrouped the field.

After the restart, Copp set the pace out front once more, with Checkalski under fire from Nelson for second. Nelson made the pass down the backstretch with four to go.

Copp continued on to the checkered flag, while it was a hornet’s nest behind him for top five spots. Nelson was second with Checkalski third, Oreskovich fourth and Uotinen fifth.

Steve Stuart (Tom Krob Photo)

Stuart shot to the slight advantage to start the WISSOTA Super Stock feature from his third starting spot, drag racing Shawn McFadden to the start/finish line in a dead heat for the lead to complete lap one. Stuart was able to edge away, as Curt Myers drove past McFadden to second.

As the laps clicked off, Stuart continued to hold the advantage ahead of Myers, who had a similar buffer to McFadden along the top side of the track. A caution with five laps remaining gave Myers a shot to the inside of Stuart during the restart as they raced into turn one; Stuart survived the attempted slide job and escaped with a healthy lead once more.

Stuart continued on to the checkered flag, as Myers, McFadden, Patrick Beeksma and Austin Blom completed the top five.

Joey Jensen (Tom Krob Photo)

Justin Jones was the early leader in the WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds. Joey Jensen moved to second within the first few laps and set off after Jones. Jensen made the pass for the lead with a handful of laps scored, pulling away from the field.

Following a caution, Jones moved back in, even giving a bumper to Jensen, but Jensen pulled away once again. Tyler Vernon was on the move and had raced into third from his seventh-starting spot. Vernon was right on Jones’ bumper with two to go, taking second on the final lap with a slide job in turn four.

Out front Jensen drove to the victory ahead of Vernon, Jones, Ryan Savoy and McLean Andrews in the top five.

Eric Crosby (Tom Krob Photo)

Crosby started on the pole en route to the WISSOTA Pure Stock win. Payton Swenson was second early before a spin sent him to the back and the field was under yellow.

Following the restart, Crosby held the lead, with Shane Basina in second, Jake Smith in third, and Aaron Bernick fourth. Derek Ament then spun and the field regrouped once again under yellow.

Crosby kept his lead in the final stages of the race, as Smith — who slid by Basina for second following the restart — settled for a close second. Basina, Bernick and Jimmy Rich, Jr. completed the top five.

Gotelaere started the WISSOTA Hornet main event from the pole, flanked by Rick Andrews, Jr. Gotelaere was the early leader, as Nathan Penney moved into second before having troubles to complete the lap and falling off the pace. The yellow came out and the field was reset.

Carson Gotelaere (Tom Krob Photo)

Gotelaere had a huge lead right away to restart the race, as Joseph Puidokas and Nikota Larson fought a side-by-side battle for second. They circled Proctor Speedway for several laps side by side, as Gotelaere grew his advantage out front.

As the laps wound down, Puidokas settled into second, while out front Gotelaere grabbed the victory. Larson, Rick Andrews, and Richard Andrews were top-five finishers.

Ken Hron won the Northern Renegade winged Sprint feature.
