Stearns, Stark and Schipke score at Brown County Speedway on Friday…and so do Bogh and Arment
By Spencer Heupel
ABERDEEN, SD (May 30) - After two weeks off due to rainouts, Brown County Speedway roared back to life on Friday. With a good turnout of 97 cars on hand, it looked to be a good night of WISSOTA Dirt Track series action.
Todd Stark, Jayden Bogh, Stewart Schipke, Kent Arment and Mike Stearns found their way to victory lane in their respective classes.
Up first was the WISSOTA Street Stocks with 19 drivers on hand. Trey Hess and Jayden Bogh were on the front row with Hess grabbing the early lead while Bogh followed. The battles from third to 10th were heavy as drivers were three to four wide at times trying to make moves. The lead duo broke away from the field.
As the laps ticked away Hess began to open a gap to Bogh, until caution struck with only four laps to go. On the restart Hess once again led, but Jodie Michaelsohn now battled Bogh for second. It was a short-lived battle as caution struck again only a lap later with a 10-car pileup going into turn one; luckily only one car was a DNF.
On what was the final restart, Bogh found something in the middle of the track and battled Hess side by side for the final three circuits. They swapped the lead almost every corner, but coming to the checkers Bogh hustled up top to beat Hess by 0.144 seconds. The win was Bogh’s first of 2025 and it was also his 22nd birthday. Hess, Michaelsohn, and Kasey Ussatis were second through fourth; Andy Rossow was the biggest mover going plus 10 to come home with a fifth-place finish.

The WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds followed with 23 drivers in the field. Lucas Rodin and Scott Hansen brought the field to green with Rodin grabbing the lead early. Caution, however, waved three laps in and became a trend. The field got realigned and ran off a few more laps until caution struck again.
The ensuing restart was a doozy as Rodin lost power coming to the green and piled up the inside lane; it ended his night along with Jaren Wibstad, who was running third, and Toby Eilers. After it was all said and done, Todd Stark took over the lead with Dawson Zabel and Jarod Klein rounding out the new top three.
The field fanned out after the restart with Klein taking second and battling Stark for the lead. The final 10 laps went green and Stark out-powered Klein. Stark went on to grab his first win of 2025 at BCS, ahead of Klein, Zabel, Taylor Schmidt and Ryan Ost.
Kent Arment (Cody Papke Photo)
Next up was the WISSOTA Modifieds with a good count of 16 drivers on hand. Jesse Young and Tony Konold brought the field to green, but yellow flew immediately as Garret Gross lost his driveshaft on the start. A complete restart followed with Konold grabbing the early lead.
The field spread out early, but Kent Arment found his way to second and began reeling in Konold. Caution struck with 13 to go.
Arment and Konold battled side by side after the restart as Mike Stearns moved to third. Arment rolled the bottom and Konold ripped the lip; it was shaping up to be good until Konold pushed out of turn four and slipped off the track, ending his bid.
The caution flag struck again with only six to go. On the restart, Dylan Zabel found his way to third, as Arment and Stearns checked out on the field. Arment pulled away and scored his second win of the year. Stearns was second ahead of Zabel, Adam Brotherton and Nate Heinrich.
Stewart Schipke (Cody Papke Photo)
The WISSOTA Super Stocks followed up with a season high count of 19 drivers in the field. Trevor Nelson and Bryson North led the pack to green with Nelson grabbing the lead and checking out. The first caution struck on lap six with a multi-car spin. On the restart, Stewart Schipke took over second from North while Mark Abeln blasted from ninth to fourth. Nelson, however, pulled away again, but it was short-lived as caution struck with 12 to go.
Nelson blasted ahead on the restart with Schipke in tow. The lead duo gapped the field, and Nelson began to gap Schipke until coming to two to go when Nelson broke down the front straightaway, ending his night. Schipke inherited the lead and cruised on to win his first feature of 2025. Bryson North was second, Abeln was on the move going plus 11 for a podium finish in third, Tim Compson was fourth and Damon Hoftiezer fifth.
Mike Stearns (Cody Papke Photo)
The nightcap was the WISSOTA Late Models with 20 drivers on hand. Konner Sperle and Josh Skorczewski were on the front row. After taking the green, they battled hard until going into turn one on the second lap, where Sperle spun and caused a melee; three drivers were unable to continue.
Kent Arment blasted to the lead from third after the restart with Mike Stearns following him to grab second from seventh. The lead duo once again pulled away from the rest of the field.
The leaders were in lapped traffic with 19 laps to go. The traffic allowed Stearns to close on Arment and they battled side by side in traffic with Stearns eventually getting the lead. The caution struck with 10 to go and the field regrouped.
Clean air is what Stearns needed as he checked out on the field following the restart. He was in lapped traffic with four to go, but he made quick progress with the lappers. Stearns went on to score his first-ever WISSOTA Late Model win. In an emotional victory lane Stearns stated, “This is for the ones who aren’t with us anymore cause I know their smiling ear to ear with me.”
Arment, Skorczewski, Thomas Weisgram and Chad Becker rounded out the top five.
