Anderson tops tour race for Streets while Peterson, Atkinson, Smith, Koch & Penney put away Ogilvie foes

By Tami Jo Kuehn

OGILVIE, MN (June 20) - A great field of 101 racers checked in to race Saturday night at Wagamon’s Ogilvie Raceway. The Dirt Race Central Street Stock Tour was also part of the program.

Following a rainy weekend, the track ended up having some character, but racers prevailed. WISSOTA Dirt Track Series winners included Jake Smith, Tyler Peterson, Parker Anderson, Landon Atkinson, Nathan Penney and Dexton Koch.

The WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds were led early by Joey Wagamon, with Joey Jensen and Jake Smith in tow. Smith slid into second and raced to Wagamon’s bumper. Smith and Wagamon were door to door for the lead until Smith broke away and secured the point. Even through lapped traffic Jake Smith was unfazed, as he kept his foot down and took the win. Wagamon, Ben Lewis, Chace Kodet and Mason Musel rounded out the top five.

Tyler Peterson (Mark Anderson Photo)

Billy Kendall snagged the lead when the WISSOTA Late Models went green with Jeff Massingill and Cole Schill to his rear. Kendall readied to move by the start of the backmarkers as Schill grabbed second and pressured Kendall. Schill and Kendall swapped for the lead when all of a sudden 13th-starter Tyler Peterson appeared from seemingly nowhere and shot alongside the leaders. With just three laps to go, Peterson drove by Kendall and nosed out the lead. Kendall kept close to the 1TPO car, but Peterson led the final laps and took the thrilling win. Billy Kendall finished second ahead of Schill, Jeff Massingill and Danny Vang in the top five.

Parker Anderson (Mark Anderson Photo)

With 21 drivers signing in to race the DRC Street Stock Tour, Kolton Brauer and Darek Turner led the field to the green. Brauer claimed the early lead, and after the first caution reset the field, Brauer, Jim Gullikson and Parker Anderson were three wide out of the turn. Anderson edged out the lead, however Gullikson and Brauer kept close.

A couple more cautions slowed the field and Anderson remained in command. Gullikson held second but soon felt pressure from Kammron Rose and Tommy Pogones. Rose moved forward into second, with Pogones at his door. With two laps to go, Pogones slid into the runner-up spot and looked ahead to Anderson. The double checkered flags were in sight for the No. 27P, and Anderson took the win ahead of Pogones, Rose, Gullikson and Brauer in the top five.

Landon Atkinson (Mark Anderson Photo)

Landon Atkinson sped off with the lead as the green waved for the WISSOTA Modifieds. Don Eischens and Joe Thomas grabbed second and third, before a charging Jody Bellefeuille drove by them for second. A puff of smoke then appeared from Clayton Wagamon’s car along with some flames. The race went red as Wagamon climbed from his car, and many drivers decided to make an early exit from the race surface.

Atkinson brought the drivers back to green, but Bellefeuille wasted no time and made the pass for first. Atkinson kept after Bellefeuille, and after he changed his line, moved back into the lead. Atkinson held the lead the final laps and took the win ahead of Bellefeuille, Joe Thomas, Jeremy Nelson and Zach Benson in the top five.

Nathan Penney (Mark Anderson Photo)

Adam Throener and Christian Kast led the WISSOTA Hornets to the green, and Nikota Larson made the battle three wide. They remained three wide the opening laps until Larson secured the lead. Nathan Penney then moved alongside Kast and Throener to again race three wide. Penney grabbed second and moved to Larson’s rear with the race half complete.

Following a restart, Penney moved to Larson’s door and they battled for first. Nathan Penney took the lead with four laps to go, and held the point for the win. After post-race tech, Nikota Larson, Adam Throener, Christian Kast and Curtis Oleksuk were the top five finishers.

Dexton Koch (Mark Anderson Photo)

The WISSOTA Super Stocks wrapped up the night’s features with Max Nelson and Dexton Koch battling for first during the opening laps of the race. Koch and Nelson swapped the top spot a few times until Nelson suffered a mechanical break, and the yellow waved.

Koch was alone on the restart with Ryan Kostreba and Dylan Kromschroeder at his rear. Kostreba and Kromschroeder put pressure on Koch, however Koch pulled away, led the remaining laps and grabbed the win. Kromschroeder, Ellen Lange, Ryan Kostreba and Joey Jensen finished second through fifth.
