Searing, Wranek, Nelson and Myers knock down WISSOTA rivals Saturday at Dakota State Fair Speedway

HURON, SD (May 30) - Grady Myers became the fourth different driver in as many nights of racing to ink a feature victory in the WISSOTA Street Stock division this season at Dakota State Fair Speedway.

Cole Searing, Jake Wranek and Trevor Nelson also picked up WISSOTA Dirt Track Series wins on Saturday night.

The victory in the 15-lap main event was the 11th for Myers in his racing career at the Huron oval, but first since August 17, 2013.

Jayden Bogh had his sights set on becoming the first multiple event winner in the Street Stock division this season. He started on the outside of the first row and snagged the lead on the opening lap.

Bogh faced heavy pressure from Broc Stout during the early portions of the feature race. The pair tangled coming out of turn two on lap seven, with Stout coming to a stop at the top of the track. The call on the caution went to Stout and left Bogh at the front of the field.

Bogh maintained the lead for two laps following the restart, but Myers used the low groove in turn three to snag the lead on the ninth lap and went on to earn the victory.

“I just stayed on the bottom down there and was able to slip underneath him,” Myers said.

Bogh was second, followed by Maria Broksieck. Michael Bogh was fourth, followed by Wyatt Brooker.

A week after scoring his first feature win at DSFS, Jake Wranek found his way back to victory lane in the WISSOTA Midwest Modified division on Saturday.

Wranek led for 14 laps in the 15-lap main event. After starting fifth, he used a three-wide pass on the inside of the track to get past front-runners Jayme Peterson and Scott Hansen coming out of turn four on the second lap.

“If they leave me a window, I’m going for [it],” Wranek said of his move for the lead. “They left me room on the bottom and I went for it.”

Nick Perry, who started fourth, finished second to Wranek in the caution-free race. Hansen was third, followed by Peterson and Luke Johnson.

Trevor Nelson recorded his third win of the season in the WISSOTA Super Stock feature race.

Nelson started fourth and challenged for the lead on the opening lap of the 15-lap main event. His bid to take the top spot from Wyatt Schweigert was unsuccessful during the first two laps, before he made his way past in the low groove of turns three and four on the third lap.

“Right away it was kind of choppy, the ruts kind of threw the car everywhere. It was good hard racing there,” Nelson said. “Wyatt is going to win some races coming up here, he’s really got his program going good and it was nice to see Brad (Kopecky) back out here also.”

Nelson pulled away for the win, with Bryson North claiming second. Austin Arbogast, who won on Friday at Brown County Speedway, was third, followed by Kopecky and Schweigert. Kopecky rolled out his back-up car this week after losing his primary car in a mishap a week earlier at DSFS.

“I just want to thank the track crew,” Nelson said. “They worked hard all day (after heavy morning rains) and they didn’t have to. Thanks for giving us a place to race.”

Cole Searing reached victory lane for the second time this season in the WISSOTA Late Model division on Saturday. He started on the pole and led all 20 laps en route to the 28th victory of his career at his hometown track.

“I finally received a good starting spot,” Searing said.

One of the biggest challenges for Searing during the entire race came on the opening lap when he and Mike Stearns raced side-by-side down the back straightaway into turn three. Stearns was forced to lift a bit and Searing took the top spot coming out of turn four.

“He definitely pulled out of the corner pretty hard and down the straightaway pretty hard,” Searing said of Stearn’s push for the lead. “It definitely all clicked for us tonight.”

While Searing had a stronghold on the top spot throughout the 20-lap feature, the battle for second was one to watch.

Stearns held second for the first three laps, before Josh Skorczewski moved past him on the fourth lap. Following in Skorczewski’s tracks was Chad Becker.

After the third of three caution periods in the Late Model feature, Becker capitalized on the restart and stole second from Skorczewski using the high side of the track coming out of turn two.

Searing, Becker and Skorczewski finished in the top three spots, respectively. Stearns was fourth and Chase Gelling, who was unable to start the heat race, was fifth.
