Skorczewski, Gross, Arbogast, Stark and Moser make Friday night fun at Brown County Speedway

ABERDEEN, SD (May 29) - A week after the first rainout of the year, Brown County Speedway returned to action. With Mother Nature trying to play spoiler for the second week in a row, the pits hosted 74 race cars across five WISSOTA Dirt Track Series classes and the INEX Legends as well.

Todd Stark, Cory Moser, Garrett Gross, Austin Arbogast and Josh Skorczewski all found themselves in victory lane at the end of Friday night in their respective WISSOTA classes.

First up were the WISSOTA Street Stocks, with 13 cars in the pits. Jodie Michaelsohn and Tony Smith led the field to the green, with Michaelsohn grabbing the lead during the opening lap.

The track was freshly farmed at intermission, so it took some time for it to widen out for the Streeters. As the laps wound down, Michaelsohn had more than a straightaway lead ahead of second-place runner Cory Moser. As Michaelsohn passed the line with two to go, the caution flag struck and brought the field to a halt.

On the restart, Moser and Smith both challenged Michaelsohn. As they came around to take the white flag, Michaelsohn’s right rear tire went flat and Moser pounced, bringing Maria Broksieck with him. She raced to his inside down the backstretch, but Moser hung on through turns three and four to grab the win. The win for Moser was his first since 2020 and was very popular with the crowd. Broksieck, Smith, Kyle Bertram and Jayden Bogh completed the top five.

Todd Stark (Track Photo)

The WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds rolled out with a strong count of 23 cars on hand. Todd Stark and Lane Johnson led the field to the start, with Stark blasting out to the lead.

Stark set the pace and he found lapped traffic by lap five. The traffic was heavy, which allowed Johnson and Dawson Zabel to start closing in on him. Just as Johnson’s nose was about up to Stark’s bumper, the first caution struck with seven laps left on the board.

On the restart, Zabel took second from Johnson and began tailing Stark, as the two both ripped the cushion around the banked 3/8ths-mile track. Just as Zabel was looking to find a run around Stark, the caution flew again, with three laps to go.

The final restart was a dandy, as Nick Perry - back to back feature winner at BCS - restarted in third and had a huge run through the first turns. He pulled even with Stark down the backstretch, and battled for another lap until he cut the left front tire, which caused him to fade back through the field.

Stark went into a flow state the final two laps and scored his first win of the year. Zabel, Jake Wranek, Perry and Johnson were top-five finishers.

Garrett Gross (Track Photo)

The WISSOTA Modifieds were next up with nine cars on hand. Two Aberdeen locals sat on the front row, as Garrett Gross and Kent Arment led the field to green. Gross grabbed the lead early and began to check out as the field was spread out on the top side.

Gross began to work through lapped traffic by lap eight as the field was thinning out for a variety of reasons. This left five drivers on the track, and it looked like Gross had the field covered until caution struck with only four laps to go.

On the restart, Gross was challenged by Mike Stearns, who threw a few sliders at Gross, but never had enough to get past him. Gross held on to score his first win of the 2026 season. Stearns settled for second, Dylan Zabel was third, and Mike Rohwedder was the final finisher in fourth.

Austin Arbogast (Track Photo)

The WISSOTA Super Stocks were represented with 12 drivers on hand, led to green by Brad Kopecky and Austin Arbogast. Arbogast was the early leader and he checked out on the field quickly.

As the field searched for lanes and fought one another for position, Arbogast grew his lead every lap until 12 to go, before Stewart Schipke and Trevor Nelson moved into second and third positions, respectively. They both began to try and reel in Arbogast, but he was hooked up and drove on to score his first win of the season. Schipke, Nelson, Bryson North and Kaden Kampa rounded out the top five.

Josh Skorczewski (Track Photo)

The WISSOTA Late Models had 14 drivers on hand, led to green by Konner Sperle and Josh Skorczewski; Skorczewski grabbed the lead going into turn one. It was a quick-paced race as the field ran top to bottom, which led to a lot of side-by-side racing.

Skorczewski began to make his way through lapped traffic only four laps into the race and made easy work of the first three cars, until caution struck on lap seven.

Following the restart, Cole Searing shot by Chad Becker and Kent Arment to take second. Skorczewski was now under fire from Searing, but it was short-lived as caution struck two laps later when Arment spun off the backstretch.

Searing did the same thing Arment did on the following restart, which drew another caution. Becker was back to second, with Sperle third. When they took the green, Skorczewski pulled away from the field once again. Skorczewski worked lapped traffic with 10 to go, but caution once again struck a lap later.

On what was the final restart, there were haymakers thrown. As they took the green, Skorczewski bobbled in turn two, which allowed Becker and Chase Gelling to get underneath him and they raced three wide down the backstretch. Gelling took this opportunity to send a slider for the lead and cleared both cars, but Skorczewski crossed him over and retook the lead.

Skorczewski bolted from the field once again in the remaining distance and held his lead to grab the win, his first of 2026. Becker, Searing, Gelling and Dustin Arthur rounded out the top five.

The INEX Legends ran their feature with only three drivers on hand; T.J. Pfeiffer scored the first win of his career.
