Peterson, Schow and Jose rule the day with first River Cities wins of 2016 Friday night

GRAND FORKS, ND (June 12) - It was all first-time winners for the 2026 season Friday night at River Cities Speedway, as Tyler Peterson took the spotlight at the end of the night with wins in the WISSOTA Late Model and Modified main events.

Greg Jose and Matt Schow also earned trips to WISSOTA Dirt Track Series victory lane.

Dustin Strand and Jamie Trautner paced the field at the beginning of the WISSOTA Late Model feature. Strand led the opening lap with rookie Dylan Langevin moving into second.

Strand opened up a lead of 3.2 seconds in the opening five laps as Langevin and Trautner fought tooth and nail for second, allowing sixth-starter Tyler Peterson to reel in the pair in a bid for the runner-up spot.

Peterson and Shane Edginton, who had won three of four features contested so far in 2026, moved into the second and third spots, respectively. Peterson began to reel in Strand for the top spot at the midway point; he executed a perfect diamond pattern off of the fourth corner with eight to go to take the lead at the flagstand, and began to put lapped cars between himself and Strand.

Peterson led the final eight laps of the race to pick up his first win at River Cities this season over Strand, Edginton, Brad Seng, and Langevin.

The cleanest race of the night was in the WISSOTA Modifieds, 20 laps lean and green. Peterson had the pole to start, with Ward Imrie to his outside as the race went green. The lead duo pulled away from the rest of the field early in the main event, with Brock Gronwold third.

With the lead pair far out in front of the pack and working lapped traffic, the battle for third became the best on the speedway; Dustin Wahl was the first to move past Gronwold into third, eventually bringing Bryce Borgen with him to fourth.

Peterson continued to cruise at the front of the field and won by nearly five seconds ahead of Imrie, Wahl, Borgen, and Jordan Duray.

Matt Schow (Steven Young Photo)

Matt Schow and last week’s feature winner Kenna Breidenbach made up the front row of the WISSOTA Midwest Mod finale. Schow led the opening lap with Breidenbach and past winner Dylan McCaughan second and third. Five cautions slowed the first 11 laps of the feature, but during the final two restarts Ryan Schow moved past Breidenbach to make it a brother battle at the front of the field.

Memphis Klassen eventually made his way into third, as the Schow brothers pulled away from the rest of the field. Ryan Schow ducked to the inside of his brother Matt on a few occasions in the final nine laps, but was never able to get past him. Matt went on to win his first race of the season.

Memphis Klassen, Austin Hunter, and McCaughan rounded out the top five.

Greg Jose (Steven Young Photo)

Josh Barker and Greg Jose made up the front row at the drop of the green in the WISSOTA Street stock main event. Jose pushed hard in turn two on the opening lap and slipped back to fifth while Cole Greseth moved around the outside of the racetrack to take the lead on the second lap.

Greseth led through four cautions in the first half of the race until he reached the flag stand at the midway point. Greseth slowed going into turn one after a possible miscommunication with the caution lights which allowed Jose, who recovered from the opening lap bobble, to charge back through the top five and take the lead.

Jose continued to lead following the final two cautions of the race in the second half of the feature and held off every one of Greseth’s peeks to his inside throughout the final half of the race to pick up his first River Cities win of the season. John Halverson, Tate Bullis, and Stoney Kruk completed the top five.

Mark Dobmeier was the Sprint Car feature winner.
