HURON, SD (June 13) - Bryson North joined his father, Jeremy, on the winner’s list at Dakota State Fair Speedway on Saturday.

North, who graduated from Huron High School in May, led from start to finish in the 15-lap WISSOTA Super Stock feature race to ink his first career win at his hometown track.

“I’m speechless,” North said after the race. “It was the one thing I always wanted to do.

“Now that we get to race here full time, it’s the one thing I wanted to do this year,” he said.

The trip to victory lane got off to a rocky start as the race was slowed three times for cautions, with just two of the 15 laps completed.

The first caution resulted in a stoppage of the race as Kenny Clements flipped his car on its lid in turn three during the opening lap.

The second caution waved just a lap later, when Trevor Nelson came to a stop at the top of turn three. He later got the car refired and joined the back of the field.

After just one more lap in the book, a spin by Gerrit VanLiere slowed the field one final time.

Once the race was restarted, North put some ground between himself and second-place Stewart Schipke. On lap 11 of the 15-lap main event, Nelson caught Schipke and used the low line in turns three and four to snag second.

Nelson was gaining ground on North, but they encountered lapped traffic just two laps later. While North was able to get past the slower car on the high side, Nelson was committed to the bottom line and ended up getting stuck behind the slower car. It was enough to allow North to hold on for the victory.

North now sits just five victories shy of his father, Jeremy, on the wins list at DSFS.

Schipke was third, while Brad Kopecky and Austin Arbogast rounded out the top five.

The WISSOTA Street Stock feature was highlighted by a familiar face in the winner’s circle.

Maria Broksieck earned the 100th feature win of her racing career on Saturday. She started on the pole and led from start to finish in the 15-lap feature race.

“I started on the front row and it paid off,” said Broksieck, who now has two wins this season at the Huron oval and a total of five in her career at DSFS. “Broc (Stout) was right there and he’s always right there.

“I never thought I’d hit 100,” she said.

On a restart following the only caution on lap nine, Stout used the high side of the track to pull even with Broksieck, but on the following laps she moved back to the point, where she stayed.

Stout, who was searching for his 21st career win in Huron, was second. Leonard Ferguson was third, followed by Chris Serr and Jayden Bogh.

Luke Johnson (Allen Becker Photo)

A late surge in the WISSOTA Midwest Modified main event helped Luke Johnson collect his second career win at DSFS.

Jake Wranek, who has a pair of victories already this season at DSFS, led the first 13 laps of the 15-lap feature race. His grasp on the top spot disappeared, while Johnson used the low groove in turn two to make his way to the front.

“I knew the line I was running got fast and he stayed on the high side.” Johnson said of his route to the victory. “He left the door open and I was able to get by.”

Johnson led the final two laps to secure his first win at the track since Aug. 20, 2022. Wranek was second, followed by Kyle Bertram, Jayme Peterson and Lane Johnson.

Josh Skorczewski (Allen Becker Photo)

The WISSOTA Late Model field for Saturday’s racing program was on the light side. In fact, only three cars were in attendance.

Josh Skorczewski emerged with victories in the heat race and the 12-lap main event. It was the fifth win of his career at the Huron track.

“It sucks that we didn’t have more cars tonight,” Skorczewski said. “But we showed up to race and we did.

“Thanks to the fans for showing up,” he said.

Justin Karlen was second, while Ryan Baumgart was third.
