Becker, Heinrich, Nichols, Rossow and Rohner run rivals off Sunday night at Casino Speedway

WATERTOWN, SD (June 8) - Casino Speedway hosted a five-class WISSOTA Dirt Track Series program of racing Sunday, June 8, with Chad Becker, Nate Heinrich, Andy Rossow, Jeff Rohner and Tommy Nichols notching victories in sanctioned action.

Tyler Lamb and Jayden Michaelsohn led the field of WISSOTA Street Stocks to the green, with Lamb the early leader. Following a restart with two laps scored, Trey Hess made his move to the outside of Lamb, briefly taking the lead before Lamb regained it shortly after. A bit farther back Jason Marko began to make his push to the front, and it was nearly three wide for the lead to complete lap seven. Marko moved into the top spot a lap later.

Following another caution, Marko continued to lead Hess and Lamb, while Andy Rossow made his appearance in the top five with four to go. Coming to the start/finish line to complete the lap, heavy contact was made among the front-runners into turn one and cars scattered across the surface.

Following the restart, Marko was restored to the lead, with Rossow and Lamb close behind. Rossow drove by Marko into the lead following that lap, and another caution regrouped the field with two to go.

Rossow led to the finish with Marko second, and Hess recovered from a trip to the back with a third-place finish, although he was later DQ’d and the official running order was Lamb in third place, Maria Broksieck in fourth, and Joe Arndt in fifth.

Nate Heinrich (Nick Anderson Photo)

Tony Konold was the early leader in the WISSOTA Modified feature. Heinrich was second, and Stearns was third before a caution for a spin by Andy Brooker regrouped the field.

Following the restart, Konold drove off once again, as Heinrich and Stearns were side by side for second. Joseph Thomas was close behind in fourth.

Out front Heinrich began to make inroads to Konold’s lead, and after exchanging slide jobs, Heinrich drove off into the lead. Stearns was third, ahead of Thomas and Cayden Schmeling in the top five.

Heinrich drove on to a dominating win, ahead of Konold, Stearns, Schmeling and Adam Brotherton in the top five.

Tommy Nichols (Nick Anderson Photo)

Following two cautions on the original attempt at a start, Darren Engesser was the early leader in the WISSOTA Midwest Mod feature. Todd Stark was second, with pressure from Nichols to the inside. Another caution kept the field at a stop-and-go pace.

Back under green, Engesser jumped out to the lead, with Stark second, closely followed by Nichols. One lap later Nichols used the high side to inch past Stark and into second.

With seven to go, Nichols began to slowly reel in Engesser. One lap later he was right to the bumper of Engesser.

Nichols continued to roll the bottom behind Engesser and when Engesser could not make his car stick down low, Nichols had the advantage and used the momentum to take over out front. From there it was all Nichols, as he took the victory ahead of Engesser, Stark, Scott Hansen, and Terry Reilly in the top five.

Chad Becker (Nick Anderson Photo)

Becker drove off from the front row in the WISSOTA Late Models, and after a side-by-side battle with fellow front-row starter Tyler Peterson, took command using the high side of the speedway to get there. Peterson was able to close back in through the turns, but Becker had the dominant speed down the front and backstretches. Ryan Engels was third, Jayson Good was fourth, and Trevor Anderson in fifth.

Out front Becker extended his advantage through lapped traffic, with the top five strung out along the speedway.

As the laps wound down, Becker continued to hold a strong advantage out front and took the win ahead of Peterson, Engels, Good and Anderson in the top five.

Jeff Rohner raced to the win in the WISSOTA Hornet class on Sunday.

In the Gen X Late Model class, Trevor Walsh was victorious.
