Rossow, Arbogast and Wranek wrestle features away from rivals Friday at Brown County Speedway

By Spencer Heupel

ABERDEEN, SD (June 6) - Brown County Speedway roared back to life with an awesome number of 117 drivers checked in across four classes. The Tri-State Late Models were the headline class on Friday with WISSOTA Street Stocks, Midwest Modifieds and Super Stocks also on hand.

Andy Rossow, Austin Arbogast, Jake Wranek were winners in WISSOTA Dirt Track Series action.

The WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds were represented by a stellar car count of 27. It was a caution-filled event, but the green flag laps were heavy with action. Jordan Kienow and Wranek brought the field to green with Wranek grabbing the initial lead.

The caution fell on lap two and it started a trend of cautions, with four occurring within three green flag laps. After the field began to settle into a green-flag rhythm, the battle between Wranek and Dawson Zabel was on.

The lead duo pulled away from the field. As they reeled in the tail of the field with four laps to go, Zabel looped it on his own out of turn four.

On the final restart, Brennon Weight challenged Wranek for the lead. Weight was on Wranek’s rear bumper, but could not find a lane to get around him. Wranek held on to score his first-ever feature win. Weight, Kyle Anderson, Todd Stark and Nick Perry rounded out the top five.

In victory lane Wranek excitedly said, “Been a long time coming to get the first one; feels really good.”

Next up the WISSOTA Street Stocks rolled out onto the track with 20 cars in attendance. Andy Rossow and Trey Hess led the field to the start. The front row battled side by side for the first three laps, with Hess grabbing the lead before the caution struck a lap later.

On the restart, Rossow took the top spot from Hess and began fending off Jayden Bogh. As the field ticked off green flag laps, this allowed 11th-starter Maria Broksieck to move into fourth.

Out front, Hess battled back to challenge Rossow for the lead again. The two fought hard for the closing laps, and Rossow edged out Hess for the second time this season. Bogh, Broksieck and Chris Serr were top-five finishers.

Grady Myers was the hard charger, as he drove from 20th to finish sixth in the 15-lap affair.

The WISSOTA Super Stocks followed with another good car count of 18 in the pit area. Robin Schmitt and Austin Arbogast brought the field to green, with Arbogast grabbing the early lead. Stewart Schipke, who started fifth, quickly worked his way up to second in the first two laps.

On lap four the red flag was out due to a pileup out of turn four that ended with Kaden Kampa on his lid. He got out of his car and walked away. The wreck ended two drivers’ nights, including Kampa.

After the melee was cleaned up, Arbogast was under fire from Schipke for the lead. As the lead pair ran nose to tail and pulled away from the field, caution struck again on lap six.

On the final restart with nine to go, Arbogast, Schipke and Mark Abeln pulled away from the field. Schipke held off Abeln, but had nothing for Arbogast, who held on to score his second win of the year.

There were 52 drivers checked in for the Tri-State Late Models. Twenty-seven drivers qualified for the 35-lap feature and Thomas Weisgram used a late-race restart to score the $3,000 payday and first win since August of 2023.
