ABERDEEN, SD (May 1) - The 2026 WISSOTA racing action kicked off at Brown County Speedway in a big way Friday, May 1. Fans packed the stands to watch 112 drivers battle to get their seasons started off right.
WISSOTA Dirt Track Series winners included Cole Greseth, Dawson Zabel, Mike Stearns, Trevor Nelson, and Kent Arment.
The WISSOTA Street Stocks rolled out first with 18 drivers on hand. Tony Smith and Jayden Bogh led the field to green and Smith grabbed the early race lead. Bogh fought back and took over out front during lap four.
At the halfway point Cole Greseth moved past Smith to take second. Greseth set his sights on Bogh and as the two leaders were about to catch lap traffic, caution struck with only four to go.

On the restart, Greseth timed it right and got a run to Bogh’s inside in the battle for the lead. The duo raced side by side for two laps until Greseth edged ahead and Greseth prevailed, scoring his first win at Brown County Speedway. Bogh, Jodie Michaelsohn, Smith and Maria Broksieck rounded out the top five.

The 27-car field of WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds were next on track. Lucas Rodin and Dawson Zabel sat on the front row and Rodin was the early leader. Along with third-place Jaren Wibstad, the trio check out on the field early. They went three wide for the lead on lap five, and Zabel shook out into the top spot. By lap seven, Zabel and Wibstad began to navigate lapped traffic; they made quick work of the backmarkers and pulled farther away from the field.
The first caution struck at the halfway point, and back under green Zabel and Wibstad checked out once again. Another caution fell with seven laps to go, and again the lead duo had a healthy advantage following the restart.
They were nose to tail up along the cushion and Wibstad searched for any way by Zabel, but nothing stuck. Zabel held on to score the win, while Wibstad, Kyle Anderson, Jake Wranek and Scott Hansen rounded out the top five. The biggest mover was Matt Heinzerling, who improved 17 spots and finished seventh.
Mike Stearns (Braden Belthius Photo)
WISSOTA Modifieds rolled out next with a good count of 15 drivers on hand. Tony Konold and Nate Heinrich led the field to the start. Heinrich was the early leader, but was soon challenged by Mike Stearns. The two drivers battled side by side for the opening four circuits until Heinrich slipped off the top of turn two, handing the lead to Stearns.
As the laps clicked by, Garrett Gross and Tyler Peterson found the top and began tracking down Stearns. As Gross was about to pull even with Stearns, Stearns moved to the top lane and blocked Gross.
A series of cautions struck in the middle section of the race. The final restart came with eight to go and Peterson tried to throw a slider at Stearns for multiple laps, but just never had enough momentum built up.
Stearns eventually pulled away in the closing laps and scored the win. Peterson, Joseph Thomas, Adam Brotherton and Dylan Zabel rounded out the top five.
Trevor Nelson (Braden Belthius Photo)
The WISSOTA Super Stocks rolled out with 14 drivers on hand. Derek Zastrow and Kody Lehr’s pair of No. 7s held down the front row and Zastrow was the early leader. Dominique Menzia and Trevor Nelson worked past Lehr and they fought for second.
As they raced for position they caught Zastrow and made it a three car breakaway. On lap nine Zastrow had a big push in turn three, and this allowed Nelson to take the lead and Menzia to take second.
The duo checked out from the field after that. Menzia stayed on Nelson’s bumper but they both stuck to the bottom. Nelson crossed the line to score the first win of the year. Menzia, Bryson North, Kyle Elsen and Stewart Schipke rounded out the top five.
Kent Arment (Braden Belthius Photo)
The WISSOTA Late Models rolled out 23 drivers deep for opening night. Josh Skorczewski and Kent Arment held the front row and they batted to take the lead early on in the contest. Skorczewski rolled the bottom while Arment ripped the top. The caution bug was prevalent in the race, and the first one struck on lap four.
A few attempts to get going ate away a few laps. Finally the field got going with 19 to go: Skorczewski took control as Cole Searing moved into second, but that was short-lived as Arment took the spot. As the leaders caught lapped traffic, caution struck again with 13 to go.
On the restart, Arment drove by Skorczewski for the top spot and they began to check out. With six to go he caught lapped traffic, which allowed Skorczewski and Chad Becker to reel him in. Coming to the white flag Skorczewski closed in closer but Arment held on to score the win. Becker, Searing and Chase Gelling were top-finishers. The hard charger of the race was Collin Compson, who improved 14 spots to come home with an eighth-place finish.
The INEX Legends were added to the weekly classes at BCS. There was 15 drivers on hand and the race was controlled by young Regan Reinke, who led flag to flag.
