Nelson, Boston, Sabraski, Jensen, Dykhoff & Jacoboski are season’s first winners at Ogilvie Raceway
OGILVIE, MN (May 2) - Ogilvie Raceway welcomed back fans and drivers for the beginning of the 2026 racing season, Saturday, May 2. After a few-week delay due to weather, the action on track was fast and furious.
WISSOTA Dirt Track Series winners included Darrell Nelson, Cole Boston, Shane Sabraski, Joey Jensen, Kyle Dykhoff and Randy Jacoboski.
Sabraski started on the pole of the WISSOTA Super Stock feature, flanked by Denis Czech. Sabraski had a narrow lead to complete the first lap, with Czech close behind in second. Kyle Copp, Dylan Kromschroeder and Tyler Kintner held early top-five spots.
With a few laps in the books, Sabraski started to build his advantage, as Kromschroeder moved by Copp to third and Kintner was under heavy pressure from Ryan Kostreba and Dustin Nelson for fifth.
Sabraski had a healthy 2-second lead just before the halfway point of the feature and Kromschroeder had just made the pass on Czech for second before the first caution of the race fell for a spin by Kris Peterson.
Back under green, Sabraski set pace out front as Kromschroeder moved into second once again. Czech and Kintner fought for third, just ahead of Kostreba and Copp; Kintner took the spot one lap later.
With seven laps to go, Sabraski’s lead was near 2 seconds once more, though Kromschroeder was making inroads on that advantage. Kintner felt the heat from Kostreba for third, making the pass stick four laps later. Czech, meanwhile, had his hands full with Copp for fifth.
Out front Sabraski continued on to the win ahead of Kromschroeder, Kostreba, Kintner and Czech in the top five.
Joey Jensen (Michael Wadsen Photo)
Justin Bassa and Joey Jensen led the stacked field of WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds to the green, and after a first-lap caution, Jensen took the early lead. Bassa, Michael Shalley, Landyn Randt and Andy Jones held top-five spots three laps in.
One lap later Bassa began to close back in on Jensen, with Shalley right there in third. Bassa made the move with 14 to go, looking to the inside of Jensen. Jensen moved to the low lane and blocked Bassa’s momentum before another spin for Maddie Swenson brought out the yellow.
Back under green Jensen had a great restart, as Bassa and Shalley were side by side for second. Jake Smith and Jones traded fourth, with Jones securing it before the 10-to-go mark. Meanwhile, Shalley drove by Bassa for second. Farther back Randt cracked the top five as Smith fell back through the field.
Three laps later Jensen’s lead was more than 1.7 seconds, with Shalley still second, Jones making the pass on Bassa for third and Randt fighting for fifth with Smith.
With three to go Shalley had cut into Jensen’s lead a bit, but a yellow brought the field back together and set the field up for mad dash to the finish.
As Jensen held command, it was three wide behind him for second. Jones shook out into second, Randt was third, Shalley was fourth and Bassa had slipped back to fifth.
At the checkered flag Jensen took the victory, with Randt using a last-lap push to get by Jones for second. Shalley and Bassa completed the top five.
Cole Boston (Michael Wadsen Photo)
Tyler Peterson and Cole Boston led the field of WISSOTA Modifieds to the green flag. Peterson held the early advantage, leaving Boston to argue with Brandon Mehrwerth for second. Sabraski was fourth and Brennan Gave was fifth.
With five laps in the books Peterson’s lead was just shy of 2 seconds, while Boston held second. Mehrwerth remained third, Sabraski was fourth and Gave continued to hold fifth.
Five laps later Peterson was navigating backmarkers, which allowed Boston to close the gap. With five to go, Boston moved to the inside of Peterson, grabbing the spot the next time by. Mehrwerth also drove by Peterson for second, and Sabraski did the same with two go.
Boston drove on to his second victory of the young season overall, with Mehrwerth finishing second. Sabraski, Eric Lamm and Peterson finished in the top five.
Kyle Dykhoff (Michael Wadsen Photo)
The WISSOTA Street Stocks hit the track, led to green by Braedyn Fleck and Tommy Pogones. Jeff Ekdahl moved from inside the second row to gain the early lead, followed by Pogones, Kyle Dykhoff, Justin Vogel and Fleck in the top five.
Just before the halfway point of the race Ekdahl held the lead ahead of Dykhoff, Pogones, Vogel and Jim Gullikson—who then spun in the battle for fifth and the caution appeared.
Ekdahl led the field back to green, with Dykhoff applying pressure for the top spot. Vogel was narrowly holding off Pogones and Levi Randt for third, with Pogones and Randt driving by for third and fourth about a lap later. Another caution fell for a spun racer with four to go and the field regrouped.
Back under green, Ekdahl had his hands full trying to hold off Dykhoff; Dykhoff used a slider to gain the lead spot with two to go, and Ekdahl returned the favor two turns later. Ekdahl couldn’t hold onto his momentum, however, and Dykhoff regained the lead. Dykhoff then powered on to the checkered flag, taking the win ahead of Ekdahl, Randt, Pogones and Vogel in the top five.
Darrell Nelson (Michael Wadsen Photo)
Nelson started from the front row in the WISSOTA Late Model feature, taking the lead from the get-go ahead of Cory Bruggeman and Shane Sabraski in the top three. Dylan Kromschroeder and Cole Schill followed in the top five.
With just four laps in the books Nelson had nearly a 2-second advantage ahead of Bruggeman. Sabraski was third, ahead of a fierce battle for fourth between Kromschroeder and Kevin Burdick.
As the race neared the halfway point Nelson began to work his way through the back of the pack. Bruggeman held second, Sabraski was still third, Kromschroeder fourth and Matt Gilbertson charged into fifth from his 12th-starting spot.
Out front Nelson was under heavy pressure from Bruggeman momentarily, as he struggled to drive past a lapped car. Nelson pulled away and back out to a healthy advantage, however, and Bruggeman settled back into a solid second place run.
Nelson was unable to be stopped and he took the win, ahead of Bruggeman, Sabraski, Gilbertson and Kromschroeder in the top five.
Randy Jacoboski (Michael Wadsen Photo)
Randy Jacoboski and Brady Fosso entertained the fans with a side-by-side duel for the lead for the first few laps of the WISSOTA Hornet feature. A caution fell with seven laps completed and the field was reset under yellow.
Fosso held the lead for the restart, as Jacoboski and Hunter Goulet worked each other for second. A Riley Terry roll with nine laps to go brought the caution back out; the driver was reported to be okay.
Back underway with 10 to go Fosso continued to hold sway in front of the field. He was soon under fire from Jacoboski, however, and Jacoboski set out into the lead by a car length one lap later. Two cautions with about seven to go kept the field slowed.
Back under green Jacoboski held a narrow lead with five to go, and Fosso returned the favor one lap later. They were side by side once again with three to go, with Fosso scored the leader.
The lead duo remained side by side with lapped traffic just ahead; Jacoboski used the outside lane to clear Fosso in a near photo finish to garner the thrilling victory. Christian Kast, Goulet and Adam Throener finished in the top five.
