Big field of 143 at I-94 opener and features go to Peterson, Rodin, Sabraski, Reinke, Brauer and Pourrier

FERGUS FALLS, MN (April 25) - The 2025 race season got underway on a very nice evening at I-94 emr Speedway Friday, April 25. With few tracks open for the season so far, you kind of knew it would be a pretty solid car count and it was — 143 entries rolled into the pits with a deep and talented field in each class.

WISSOTA Dirt Track Series winners during I-94’s opener included Tyler Peterson, Lucas Rodin, Shane Sabraski, Nate Reinke, Kolton Brauer, and Chase Pourrier.

The WISSOTA Street Stocks got things rolling with a nice 19-car field, with Nick Shumansky and Kolton Brauer on the front row of the 20-lap feature. Brauer jumped out to an early lead and looked very strong, with Landon Randt and Cole Greseth in a great battle for second.

With seven laps left, Greseth took over second and then surprised everybody, as he ran down Brauer. The pair spent the last six laps in a hard-fought race with one another, with Brauer finally closing out the race with his second win of the 2025 race season.

Nate Reinke (Alex Ostenson Photo)

The WISSOTA Midwest Mods were next on the track and as usual they had a full field of 26 cars. Jamie Norman led early and he looks like he is gonna have a great season. Soon Lucas Rodin was right on his rear bumper, with Nate Reinke close behind in third and James Trantina and Haley Dykhoff also in the chase.

With 14 laps to go Reinke took the lead, and then two laps later Dykhoff got by Norman for third. With another handful of laps in the books, a strong-running Jaren Wibstad got by Dykhoff and joined Rodin in the party up front behind Reinke. During the last three laps Rodin and Wibstad went after Reinke, but the defending track champ held on to win by a foot in a real thriller.

Tyler Peterson (Alex Ostenson Photo)

Just like most nights last year, there was a strong and talented field of 27 WISSOTA Late Models on hand. Don Shaw and Dave Mass held the front row and you just knew it was going to be a dogfight of the dirt track variety. Shaw jumped out to the early lead with Mass and Tyler Peterson close. Then things got wild as Peterson took the lead and Shaw caught a tractor tire; he spun up the track and the damage ended his night.

On the restart Peterson had the lead, while the other car on the move was Zach Johnson, who moved into second. Josh Zimpel then charged from seventh to pass Johnson for second, as Cole Searing blasted from his ninth starting spot to fourth. In the end Peterson and Zimpel finished first and second, with Jayson Good grabbing third followed by Searing and Charlie Olsen.

Shane Sabraski (Steven Young Photo)

The WISSOTA Super Stocks brought a nice field of 17 cars, as William Lund put on a show early. But to no one’s surprise Shane Sabraski was a force to be reckoned with, as he passed James Trantina for third with 10 laps to go, and then got by Bailey Rosch for second three laps later. He wasn't done yet as he then got by Lund with three laps left and drove on to his 935th career win.

Lucas Rodin (Steven Young Photo)

A very fast field of 22 WISSOTA Modifieds hit the track with Lucas Rodin and Tyler Peterson going at it for the lead, and Landon Atkinson and Brady Gerdes side by side for third. Atkinson, who has really been on a roll this year, moved into second.

With 12 laps left, he then caught Rodin and they went back and forth. Three laps later it turned into a mad scramble as Gerdes passed Peterson for third, and then Sabraski grabbed the spot, as the front of the field continued to jockey for position. In the end Rodin got a great win with Atkinson second, Gerdes third, Sabraski fourth and Joe Thomas was fifth.

Chase Pourrier (Alex Ostenson Photo)

Chase Pourrier picked up a solid win in the WISSOTA Hornet class, while Rick Schroeder dominated the Cliff Viessman Gen X Late Model class.

I-94 thanks Sam Zender Floor Covering and Shaw Trucking for sponsoring our season opener. Racing resumes next Friday at 7 p.m.
