By Meghan Diemel, Editor

EAST BETHEL, MN - You’ve seen him dominate the Super Stock class for years, and now he’s a threat in a WISSOTA Late Model. East Bethel, Minnesota’s Dave Mass is a rising star in the top ranks of WISSOTA Auto Racing, but it’s no surprise given the prolific career of the 50-year-old.

In 2025, Mass wheeled his way to the Structural Buildings WISSOTA Late Model Challenge Series Championship and finished fifth in national points. He won the Twin 25s first feature, as well as earned the King of Dirt Late Model title at I-94 emr Speedway. He also won the Piston Cup at Granite City Motor Park, and scored his first-ever and second Challenge Series victories this past season.

When he’s not on the race track in his No. 2, he works as a mechanic and is dad to sons Max and Brody, and husband to wife Sami.

ATD: What was the low light of your 2025 season?

Mass: Finishing the season with a DNF at the Topless Nationals, despite having a very fast car.

ATD: What is your background in racing, and who has helped you along the way?

Mass: I started racing in my 20s in a Pure Stock Bomber and worked my way up through the ranks. Mass: Competing in Late Models against some of the top drivers I’ve admired for years.

ATD: Break down the reality of a racing season. What advice would you give new drivers about the time and effort it takes?

Mass: A successful season requires long nights in the shop, a major financial commitment, lots of travel, and a very supportive family. All of that matters just as much as time on the track.

ATD: What is the hardest or most trying part of the racing season for you, and why?

Mass: Honestly… answering these questions. (Just kidding, Meg!)

ATD: What is your favorite event of the year and why?

Mass: I love the end-of-the-year specials and the Challenge Series — more competition and bigger payouts make those events exciting.

ATD: Which class is your favorite to race in, and why?

Mass: Late Models are my favorite. I enjoy the level of competition and the chance to travel with a great group of guys.

ATD: Is there a race or track you’ve never raced at but want to?

Mass: Knoxville is high on my list — a place I’d love to take a car to someday.

ATD: What will be your favorite part of the offseason heading into late 2025 and early 2026?

Mass: Spending quality time with my wife and family.
