In the closing laps Jensen pushed his margin to over 3.5 seconds and cruised to his second Northern Nationals win in as many nights. Vendela stayed well ahead of Vernon for second, and Brandon Jensen held off 12th-starting track champ Ryan Savoy for fourth.
The next race on the program was the 25-lap WISSOTA Super Stock feature, and Jensen had to work from a bit further back — starting inside on the fourth row — but by mid-race he was well on his way to capping off his historic evening.
Trevor Nelson started from the pole and stayed ahead of a heated discussion between Doug Koski and Rick Simpson over second place, while Jordan Henkemeyer and Jensen debated fourth. On lap six, Andy Grymala’s motor blew, sending up a cloud of smoke that forced Matt Deragon to spin on the frontstretch in an effort to avoid contact and bringing about the first of the race’s three caution stops.
Just as the green flag was dropped for the restart, the field was advised to stop to allow emergency personnel from the infield to respond to a call just outside the main grandstand gate - the first of the two such calls on the night.
After the brief delay, Nelson maintained a small lead on Simpson, with Jensen moving up to third ahead of Koski and Henkemeyer. On lap 13, Jensen and Simpson surrounded Nelson, and Jensen took the outside lane to grab the lead. Over the next 10 laps Jensen built a huge 3.4-second lead, catching the tail end of the field with three laps to go.
Tenth-starter Dexton Koch had climbed his way into the top five after the restart and slipped past Simpson for third on lap 19. He and Nelson then dueled fiercely for second until lap 23, when they smacked their cars together and caused significant damage to each other and themselves — Koch coasted into the pits, and Nelson was towed off.
Jensen rebuilt enough of an advantage to win the final green-white-checkered dash by just shy of a second, ahead of Koski, Simpson, Henkemeyer and 14th-starting Steve Stuart.
The 2025 racing season will officially end for the Gondik Law Speedway on Saturday, October 25, with its annual awards banquet at the Pike Lake Golf & Beach Club Event Center in Duluth, MN.
