Wagamon, Nelson, VandeKamp, Pogones and Bruss best in class during next-to-last race of the 70th season at Princeton

PRINCETON, MN (September 4) - Friday night featured a full agenda of WISSOTA Dirt Track Series action and wrapped up the 2026 regular race season for Princeton Speedway’s 70th anniversary.

There were a couple of close point battles as the first green flag waved, and when the final checkers dropped, Clayton Wagamon, Dylan Kromschroeder, Jason VandeKamp, Kyle Howland, Thomas Burgard and Wayne Nelson were declared track champions.

Winners in WISSOTA action during the event included Clayton Wagamon, Dustin Nelson, Jason VandeKamp, Tommy Pogones and Connor Bruss.

The WISSOTA Street Stocks were first up for the night, and after an opening lap caution, Tommy Pogones and Charlie Shiek battled for the top spot. Pogones secured the lead while Jeff Ekdahl tucked in behind him in second.

A couple cautions reset the field, but Pogones remained in command. Behind him, Andrew Hanson slid his way into second. Pogones led the remaining laps and drove into victory lane ahead of Hanson, Trent Kelller, Kyle Howland and Jeff Ekdahl in the top five.

Travis Scott and Kris Peterson led the WISSOTA Super Stocks to the green flag and drivers remained door to door during the opening lap. Dustin Nelson drove the middle groove and made his way to the top spot by the end of lap three. Peterson and Scott remained close for second with an eager Jordan Henkemeyer making the battle three wide. Henkemeyer claimed the runner-up spot and looked ahead to Nelson. With a couple laps to go, Henkemeyer was on Nelson’s bumper and with a lapped car mixed in, they came to the checkered flag in a final charge toward victory. Nelson emerged with the win while Henkemeyer, Scott, Dylan Kromschroeder and Peterson finished second through fifth.

Jason VandeKamp sped off with the lead as the WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds feature began. Adam Bohlman moved into second while Dustin Nelson slid into third. Bohlman closed the gap with VandeKamp and raced to his door in the turns, but VandeKamp retained the lead. Bohlman kept after VandeKamp lap after lap, but at the race’s end, VandeKamp snagged the win. Positions two through five were awarded to Bohlman, Nelson, Kris Macko and Tate Kostreba.

The WISSOTA Mod Fours hit the track running as drivers vying for the championship immediately battled each other in the field. Connor Bruss stuck to the middle and slid to second by the end of lap one, as Matt Brenny grabbed the top point. With seven laps recorded, Brenny got a bit high in the turn and slid over the track's edge, triggering a caution, and Bruss assumed the lead. Father-and-son team, Robert and Dustin Holtquist, were on Bruss’ bumper as the race resumed.

The Mod Fours experienced a few cautions throughout their race, but as the race concluded, Bruss took the win with Dustin Holquist, Robert Holtquist, Andrew Christianson and Thomas Burgard as the top finishers.

Brandon Mehrwerth took first while Clayton Wagamon and Eric Lamm battled for second when the WISSOTA Modifieds went green. Wagamon and Lamm kept pressure on Mehrwerth, as a couple cautions kept the racers at a stop-and-go pace. Lamm worked the low groove and moved into the top point, but Mehrwerth and Wagamon kept close to Lamm. Wagamon worked the high line and raced alongside Lamm, and Wagamon’s car nosed ahead at the line for first. Lamm was ahead the next lap, and as the checkered flags were raised, Lamm and Wagamon shot to the finish line nose to nose and Wagamon scored the win. Lamm finished second with Mehrwerth, Travis Schulte and J.T. Johnson in the top five.

The Crown Vics wrapped up the night with Jeff Hass and Abe Langager on row one. Langager claimed the lead with Jeff Hass in second and Wayne Nelson in third. Galen and Connor Hass kept pressure on Nelson as a caution occurred. Langager retained the lead on the restart with Nelson in second, but Jeff Hass came back and took second. Jeff Hass chased after Langager and with a slower driver mixed in, and Hass moved into the top point with a handful of laps to go. Jeff Hass took the win ahead of Wayne Nelson, Connor Hass, Galen Hass and Noah Rau in the top five.

Saturday, October 17 will be the final event at Princeton Speedway for 2026. The Oktoberfest Celebration event will feature the UMSS Sprint Cars, Micro Sprints, WISSOTA Mod Fours and Crown Vics.
