Brown County’s Big Buck night one winners are Becker, Thomas, Nelson, Perry and Randt

ABERDEEN, SD (September 4) - Invitational season kicked off in South Dakota with the first night of the two-day Big Buck Nationals Friday, September 4. With it being a two-day show, 124 cars checked in through the back gate. There was weather in the area all night, but the track crew stayed on top of it, which led to some great racing action.

Levi Randt, Nick Perry, Joseph Thomas, Trevor Nelson and Chad Becker were all victorious in their respective WISSOTA divisions.

The 21-car field of WISSOTA Street Stocks made their way to the track led by Zach Jung and Maria Broksieck from the front row, and Broksieck grabbed the point. Multiple three-wide battles filled the surface as the track was maneuverable, however caution struck with 13 to go.

On the restart, Broksieck had Chris Serr and ninth-starter Levi Randt on her back bumper. Broksieck and Randt battled door to door for several laps before Randt grabbed the lead right before the caution struck again with 10 to go.

Randt continued to lead under green as Jodie Michaelsohn, Broksieck and Serr battled for second, but caution struck again with eight to go. That caution started a trend of yellow flags with no more laps completed, so officials made the call to cut three laps from the race.

The field readied for its five-lap shootout, with Randt leading. Meanwhile, Broksieck and Michaelsohn battled for second, but caution struck again with three to go. Back under green, Randt’s lead ahead of Michaelsohn began to dissipate, as Michaelsohn reeled him in. Randt fended off Michaelsohn in closing circuits to score his first win at BCS while Michaelsohn, Broksieck, 18th-starter Grady Myers and Billie Christ rounded out the top five.

WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds followed in the program with 27 drivers on hand and all made the main event. Nick Perry and Jason Grimes brought the field to green, with Perry leading the opening lap. Grimes fought back on the outside and took the lead on lap two, but that was negated by the caution flag.

On the restart, Perry moved to the top while there was a hornet’s nest of drivers from second to sixth. But caution struck again with 12 to go; following the restart, Dawson Zabel moved into second and began to chase Perry but, to no one’s surprise, caution struck again. With that the officials cut four laps off the total and there were eight laps remaining.

On the restart, Perry slowly checked out from the field with Zabel and Brennan Weight in tow. As the laps ticked off Perry found lapped traffic on the final lap, but had a big enough lead to score his third win of the year at BCS. Zabel, Weight, Todd Stark and Jake Wranek rounded out the top five.

Next up was the WISSOTA Modifieds, with 12 drivers setting the starting grid. Dylan Zabel and Garrett Gross were the front duo, and Zabel led the opening lap. He then flipped in turn three, but was said to be okay.

Tony Konold inherited the lead with Gross and Ryan Gierke on his bumper. When the field retook the green, Konold led with Gierke giving chase up top. Gierke used the cushion to rail right around Konold to take the lead with 15 to go, but the caution struck.

On the restart, Gierke was under fire from Joseph Thomas as the two battled side by side for the lead, but caution struck again with two laps later.

Thomas led the field to green with Gierke and Mike Stearns on his bumper. Thomas checked out while Gierke and Stearns traded second back and forth for multiple laps until Stearns gained control of the spot and began to chase the No. 6ST machine.

Thomas caught traffic with only two to go, but his lead was more than a straightaway, which allowed him to coast to his first win at BCS in 2026. Stearns, Gierke, Kent Arment and Gross crossed the line with top five finishes.

WISSOTA Super Stocks hit the track with 14 drivers on hand. A pair of BCS locals set the pace with Kody Lehr and Trevor Nelson bringing the field to life. Nelson rocketed out to a big lead early while there was a three-car battle for second, but a debris caution came out on lap two.

The restart was more of the same with Nelson rocketing out to the lead while Lehr and Dominique Menzia battled for second with Menzia taking the spot. Nelson slowly pulled away from the field.

Nelson’s lead just grew every lap as the field began to spread out. Nelson caught lapped traffic with six to go, and like a knife through butter got around them with ease to score his 10th win of the year at BCS. Menzia, Mike Rohwedder, Stewart Schipke, and Kenneth Clemens held top-five spots.

The WISSOTA Late Models had a nice field with 21 drivers on hand. Colin Compson and Chad Becker were the front row and Compson led the opening lap. Becker, however, took the lead on lap two using the cushion.

Josh Skorczewski followed up top to move into second and brought Cole Searing with him. The top five were under a blanket as they caught lapped traffic with 18 to go.

Skorczewski then hung the right rear off the track dropping all the way back to 16th. Becker began to open a lead over Searing in traffic.

With eight to go, Searing finally cleared lap traffic and could see Becker about a straightaway ahead of him. Becker’s lead was steady as he finally broke through to win at BCS for the first time since May 15th. Searing, Kent Arment, Mike Stearns and Compson rounded out the top five.

INEX Legends were on hand, and they put on the best race of the night with 29 drivers on hand. Preston Martin scored his fifth win at BCS in 2026.
