Sabraski inherits the lead and tops Super Stock action Wednesday at the WISSOTA 100

FERGUS FALLS, MN (September 16-17) - Shane Sabraski was the beneficiary of a late-race caution that eliminated the top two drivers, and inherited a lead he did not surrender on his way to the win in the delayed Wednesday Qualifying Feature for the WISSOTA Super Stocks.

Dylan Nelson grabbed the lead when the 20-lap feature took the green flag; the top eight were set to earn a spot in Saturday’s Championship Feature. Fellow front-row-starter Ryan Kostreba was second on the opening lap, but Dylan Kromschroeder slid underneath for the spot on the next lap. Kolby Kiehl was next to challenge Kostreba, and was scored third on lap three. Sabraski charged around the high side, stole fourth from Kostreba, and caught the second and third drivers in the next set of turns.

Nelson opened a comfortable lead with five laps scored, while Kromschroeder, Kiehl and Sabraski remained tight in the race for second. Brandon Duellman was fifth with pressure from Kostreba and Dexton Koch. The first caution waved with six laps recorded.

Kiehl took over second after the restart, but Koch made an outstanding move to race around three drivers in turns one and two to net second. Koch turned up the heat on Nelson, while Sabraski worked into third. Koch made the pass down the back chute, and led the field to complete lap 10. The top two had pulled away from the pack before a yellow flag with 11 laps in the books.

Sabraski claimed second after the restart, and Denis Czech moved into fourth, before he raced around Nelson for third. Dalton Carlson advanced from 12th at the start to move into the top five, and picked up another spot when Nelson dropped from the race on lap 15.

Koch powered away from the pack, and Czech tested Sabraski for the runner-up position. The caution appeared again with three laps to go after Duellman sat backward on the speedway.

Czech charged into turns one and two after the restart, but as he slid up the track, he caught the left rear of Koch, who spun down the backstretch and a melee ensued. Koch was towed off the speedway, Kiehl retired with damage, and Czech was sent to the tail.

Sabraski drove away after the restart, and Carlson shed Kromschroeder for second. Trevor Nelson, who started 14th, moved to the inside of Kromschroeder with two laps to go and grabbed third, but could advance no further before the checkered flag.

Sabraski recorded the win, with Carlson, Nelson, Kromschroeder and Andrew Hedtke in the top five. Kostreba, 18th-starter Travis Scott, and 17th-starter Andrew Johnson finished in the top eight transfer positions.

Of the drivers who qualified for Saturday’s Championship Feature, all elected to take their starting spots for Saturday.

Earlier in the program, the Super Stocks ran five heat races, eight laps in distance, to set the field for the Qualifying Feature.

Koch ran away for the victory in the first Super Stock heat race. Sabraski could not keep pace with Koch and finished second, while Carlson made some late moves to secure third. Zach Schultz and Carson Miller rounded out the top five.

Kromschroeder dominated the first half of the second heat race. Dylan Nelson started at the tail of the field, but worked his way past Jeffrey Frey into second on lap five. After a caution, Nelson stayed close to Kromschroeder, but could not make the pass. Frey was third ahead of Travis Scott and Jayden Friauf in the top five.

Austin Niemeyer put heavy pressure on Duellman for the top spot early in heat three, but Duellman opened a lead in the second half of the race. Despite a caution just past the halfway point, Duellman raced to the victory ahead of Niemeyer, Dan Nissalke, Cameron Labelle and Colsten Schultz.

Czech grabbed the initial lead in the fourth heat, but R.C. Giess pulled to his door and the pair were neck and neck through a couple of laps in the middle of the race. Czech edged ahead with the advantage, but Geiss stayed with him for a close second-place finish. Trevor Nelson finished third ahead of Brayden Hedtke and Andrew Johnson in the top five.

Kiehl dominated the final Super Stock heat race. Andrew Hedtke took advantage of a late restart to grab second ahead of eighth-starter Ryan Kostreba, while Dustin Zieske was the final finisher.
