Lund leads all the way to win final Super Stock Qualifying Feature and will start up front in the big show

FERGUS FALLS, MN (September 19) - It was a dominant performance for William Lund in Friday’s WISSOTA Super Stock Qualifying Feature, held on Saturday afternoon. Lund entertained no challenges en route to the victory, and earned a front row start for Saturday’s Championship Feature.

R.C. Geiss and William Lund brought the 20-lap qualifying feature to the green flag, with the top eight drivers making the cut for the Saturday night’s Championship Feature.

Geiss barely led the first lap, but Lund raced around him on the high side to lead lap two. Tim Johnson worked to the outside of Giess for second with Austin Arbogast under pressure for Denis Czech in the top five. Czech took the spot, and moved in to challenge Geiss and Johnson for second while Lund powered away from the pack. Johnson was finally able to sneak under Geiss for second on lap six before the first caution of the race waved with seven laps scored.

Brandon Duellman worked into third after the restart, and looked under Giess for position; he had to spot at the line to complete lap nine. Czech was fourth and Cameron Labelle raced by Johnson for a spot in the top five. The caution waved around the halfway mark.

Lund pulled away from Duellman after the restart, and Czech moved by Giess for third on lap 13. Labelle also displaced Giess and secured fourth on lap 14. Johnson was sixth, but a flat right-rear tire knocked him from the race and brought out a caution with four laps to go.

Czech raced around Duellman for second after the restart, and Labelle and Giess battled for fourth ahead of Jordan Henkemeyer. Lund continued to distance himself from the pack, and Duellman stayed close to Czech for second. Lund cruised to the victory by half a straightaway to score the middle of the front row for the championship feature. Czech was second with Duellman third, Labelle fourth, Giess fifth, Henkemeyer sixth, Arbogast seventh and Dustin Nelson eighth.

Four heat races — eight laps in distance — set the field for the qualifying feature in Friday’s portion of the program. The top 24 in passing points made the cut.

Dustin Nelson and Shawn Fernkes were door to door over the opening lap of the first heat. Fernkes narrowly led lap one, but Nelson pulled ahead on lap two. Fernkes remained close, and Brandon Duellman moved in to challenge for second. Duellman secured the spot, and when Dan Nissalke pulled alongside Fernkes on the final lap, contact sent Fernkes into the back stretch wall. Nelson barely fended off Duellman for the win in the one-lap shootout, and Cameron Labelle was a close third. Jake Luark and Nissalke rounded out the top five.

Tim Johnson started on the outside of the front row, and pulled away to victory in the second heat. Jordan Henkemeyer passed Wyatt Schweigert for second in the opening laps, then sixth-starter Denis Czech worked by Schweigert in the closing laps. Dustin Zieske was fifth.

Bailey Rosch pulled away from the pack in the early part of heat three. John Adams held second, but Lund took the spot near halfway. After a mid-race restart, Lund used the high groove to catch Rosch, and then the low groove to steal the lead away under the white flag. The two were door to door over the final lap, and Lund won a drag race to narrowly beat out Rosch for the win. Adams, Butch Butcher and Russell Kostreba were top five finishers.

Kris Fielding led early in the fourth heat race, but Austin Arbogast put on the heat, and stole the top spot on lap two. R.C. Geiss followed into second, and fought off Andy Brooker in the closing laps to keep the position. Bodie Smith and Jeffrey Frey rounded out the top five.

The six final drivers to make the championship feature came from a 12-lap Last Chance Qualifier. Wyatt Schweigert pulled away with the early lead on the high side, and Jayden Friauf worked into second in the opening laps. Kolby Kiehl grabbed third before the first caution with one lap scored.

After a lap-three caution, Kiehl had a good restart and drove under Schweigert for the lead. Friauf challenged for second, and Tim Johnson made a power move to drive from sixth to fourth on lap four. Johnson raced to the outside of Friauf for third on lap six, then ducked inside of Schwiegert for second in the next set of turns. Russell Kostreba held the fourth spot, and Dustin Zieske had his hands full in the final transfer spot. Carson Miller and Shawn Fernkes battled for seventh, and Zieske was not safe in sixth.

Kiehl earned the win with Johnson second, Schweigert third, Friauf fourth, Kostreba fifth, and Miller made a last-corner pass on Zieske for the final transfer.
