SUPERIOR, WI (August 27) - The WISSOTA Challenge Series kicked off a massive Labor Day weekend, as the series headed to Gondik Law Speedway in Superior, Wisconsin on Wednesday for the rescheduled Twin Ports Twin 25s.
Dave Mass raced off to his first-career series victory in the first 25-lap feature race, and Billy Kendall then raced to his first-ever Twin 25s victory in the second feature of the night.
Other WISSOTA Dirt Track Series winners included Darrell Nelson and Tom Treviranus.
After heat race action was completed, Ashley Anderson and Jake Hartung earned the front row for the night’s first $2,500-to-win, 25-lap feature event. Hartung had the upper hand on the initial start and led the opening lap.
With Hartung out front, Anderson and third-starter Mass began a side-by-side battle for second early on, until the first caution of the 25-lap event flew on lap four. On the restart, Mass overhauled Hartung for the top spot, as Anderson pulled alongside Hartung for second.
After a quick caution on lap five, Mass began to stretch his advantage around the bottom of the ultra-smooth track, while Kevin Eder, Travis Budisalovich and Jeff Provinzino fought for fourth.
The battles waged on throughout the field until the third and final caution of the event flew on lap 11 for a tangle in turn two, bunching the field once again.
On the restart, Mass blasted around the red clay oval with Anderson taking second, while Hartung, Dave Flynn and Eder raced for top-five positions.
The laps clicked off quickly as Mass negotiated lapped traffic with ease en route to his first career Challenge Series victory for his efforts. Anderson ran second with Flynn advancing 10 positions to claim third. Eder and Budisalovich rounded out the top five.

During the second 25-lap feature, Hartung and Kendall shared the front row after Mass drew an 11 for the invert. On the start, the front row drag raced around the track with Hartung leading Kendall by the slightest of margins during the opening several laps. Jayme Lautigar joined the mix, and moved by Hartung into second. Lautigar then closed in on Kendall for the lead.
Just behind the great battle for the top spot, Budisalovich and Kyle Peterlin were in a thrilling fight for third as the leaders were trying to decide the outcome of the race out front.
The second half of the second Twin 25 was only slowed by one single caution on lap 14, but Kendall was up to the challenge. He led the final 11 laps to race off to his first career Twin 25s victory with Anderson nipping Lautigar at the finish line for second. Budisalovich and Peterlin rounded out the top five finishers.
Anderson was presented with an additional $500 bonus for having the best combined feature finishes with a pair of second-place runs for his efforts.
Darrell Nelson (Tom Krob Photo)
Darrell Nelson won a whale of a WISSOTA Modified feature, jumping from outside of the second row to overhaul early race leader Al Uotinen for the top spot. He then survived a wild battle with Jody Bellefeuille for the top spot over the final five circuits to win in a .022-second photo finish. Brady Uotinen charged from 13th to third, while Ryan Gierke and Mike Anderson rounded out the top five.
Tom Treviranus (Tom Krob Photo)
Tom Treviranus won the WISSOTA Pure Stock feature by more than 5 seconds in a dominant run to round out the night. Aaron Bernick ran second with Dylan Helget edging Eric Crosby for third. Trevor Treviranus was fifth.
