Smith, Hess, Vernon, Chernosky and Stieh steal the thunder from rivals Thursday at Thunder City Speedway

THUNDER BAY, ONTARIO (August 28) - Curtis Stieh, Cole Chernosky, Tyler Vernon, Spencer Smith and Trey Hess won in WISSOTA Dirt Track Series action Thursday night at Thunder City Speedway. The Thunder Bay, Ontario race track held a regular night of action on their rain date, following poor weather on Wednesday.

Stieh picked his way forward from eighth on the grid to the lead with just over a handful of laps to go in the WISSOTA Modified feature. Scott McKinnon finished in second ahead of Brandon Copp, Tyler Vernon and Cole Chernosky in the top five.

Patience was Vernon’s virtue in the WISSOTA Midwest Modified feature, as he worked his way forward from seventh and took over out front for good around lap eight. His advantage at the checkered flag was just under 3 seconds ahead of William Moelter. Kolby Reed, Kevin Monteith and 11th-starter Matthew Mitchell completed the top five.

Chernosky scored the WISSOTA Super Stock victory Thursday, holding off the charge of 15th-starter Rick Simpson for the win. Nathan Roy, 16th-starter Andrew Groom and Danny Young rounded out the top five.

In the WISSOTA Street Stocks, Hess capitalized on his front-row starting spot and after a mid-race battle with sixth-starter Kyle Bolt for the lead, secured the top spot for good with around a handful of laps left to get the victory. Bolt was second, AJ Kellar was third, 16th-starter Brendan Makkinga was fourth and Darren Wolframe, who started 15th, finished fifth.

Spencer Smith continued his recent domination of the WISSOTA Hornet class at Thunder City, garnering the victory ahead of Rick Breukelman, Jimmy Owen, Martin Bolt and 16th-starter Curtis Oleksuk in the top five.
