FERGUS FALLS, MN (September 13) - Shane Sabraski’s 998th career victory was a big one: the WISSOTA 100 championship feature in the Super Stocks. Sabraski earned his fifth WISSOTA 100 title overall, and his first repeat in any division, after Saturday’s run to the checkers.
Dylan Nelson, Dexton Koch and Curt Myers brought the field down the frontstretch and to the green flag in their 40-lap main event. Nelson powered to the lead out of turn two ahead of Koch, Myers, Sabraski and Jordan Henkemeyer. Koch looked to the outside of Nelson on lap two with Myers in close contention in the low groove. The pair raced door to door behind Nelson, and when Nelson slid high in turn four, Myers shot by for the top spot. The lap, however, was not scored when the yellow flag waved. Under the caution, Nelson forfeited the top spot to replace a flat tire on his No. 25.
Myers led the pack to the restart with only three laps recorded. Koch tested the outside of Myers while Sabraski used the inside line to pull even with Koch. Henkemeyer and Dustin Nelson ran door to door for fourth, while Sabraski and Koch continued to spar for second six laps into the event.
Myers opened a little breathing room at the front of the pack, and Sabraski secured second eight laps into the race. Dustin Nelson was comfortably in fourth and Rick Simpson challenged Henkemeyer for a spot in the top five.
Sabraski reeled in Myers with 10 laps scored and looked to the middle groove to try and roll around the leader. Sabraski briefly lost touch with the leader a few laps later as he searched for speed on the oval, but he still had a healthy margin over Koch. Dustin Nelson moved in to challenge Koch for third.
Myers encountered the slower car of Carson Miller, caught the tail end of his machine, and turned him around on the back chute to bring out the caution with 16 laps recorded. The restart attempt was unsuccessful after Dustin Nelson sat backward in turn one with a flat tire.
Sabraski looked to the outside of Myers again after the restart and had a run down the back chute, but Myer moved up the track and slammed the door shut. Sabraski had to get on the binders, but reloaded for another run. Henkemeyer looked under Koch for position before another caution for Simpson slow on the speedway.
Myers led the pack to the restart with 23 laps remaining and continued to use the low groove in the turns. Again Sabraski had a strong run off the middle of turn two, but Myers closed any opening down the back chute. Koch and Henkemeyer remained in order while Dylan Kromschroeder and Alex Myers battled for a spot in the top five.
Sabraski continued to have strong runs off the turns, but Myers shut down his momentum each time. Sabraski searched for a different route around the leader; he had his nose to the outside of Myers again down the back chute on lap 24, but again Myers slammed the door. Sabraski remained close, and Koch was not far behind, before a caution with 15 laps to go.
The top three broke away after the restart. Myers briefly had a gap over Sabraski, but Sabraski reeled him in once again by lap 32. Finally, Sabraski pulled even with Myers out of turn two and he nosed ahead down the back chute. Sabraski secured the spot into turn three and led the pack to complete lap 34. He stretched his lead to a half straightaway with two laps to go, but one final caution waved and set up a one-lap dash to the finish.
Sabraski was unchallenged on the final lap, while Koch grabbed second from Curt Myers out of turn two. Kromschroeder and Alex Myers both raced to the outside of Curt Myers in the final turn, and Alex narrowly edged out Kromschroeder for the final podium position. Curt Myers fell to a fifth-place finish with Henkemeyer sixth, Kolby Kiehl seventh, Travis Scott eighth, 17th-starter Ryan Kostreba ninth and Denis Czech 10th.
Sabraski added this title to his double dip in the Modified and Midwest Modifieds during the 2006 Western 100 at Brown County Speedway, and the 2021 Super Stock and 2024 Late Model titles, both at I-94 Speedway.
The Super Stocks added six more starters to the big show from their Last Chance Qualifier. Trevor Nelson led early, but gave way to William Lund on lap two. Tim Johnson and Russell Kostreba battled for third after an early caution, with Shawn Fernkes and Brayden Hedtke following in the transfer positions.
After a pair of mid-race cautions, Johnson slid under Lund to lead lap eight, and Nelson picked off Lund for second a few laps later. Fernkes raced in fourth over Hetdke, while Matt Sparby charged from 16th on the grid into a transfer spot late in the race. Johnson grabbed the win, while Nelson, Lund, Fernkes, Hetdke and Sparby also made the cut.
