On a steamy and speedy night at Greenbush, Thomas, Drewry, Gust and Smith sprint to victory lane

GREENBUSH, MN (August 29) - A warm and humid August evening greeted racers and fans alike for a great night of action at Greenbush Race Park.

WISSOTA Dirt Track Series winners included Joseph Thomas, Connor Drewry, Jeremy Gust, and Mason Smith.

Hunter Wescott and Mason Smith led the WISSOTA Pure Stock field to the green flag. Smith snagged the lead early on and pulled away. A couple of restarts didn’t slow Smith down, as he was the class of the field for most of the feature race.

Behind him a few good battles among Wescott, Austin Carlson, and Jake Smith ensued. Smith and Carlson showed speed at times, but the slick parts of the track proved to be a challenge for both. When the checkered flags were waving, it was Mason Smith with the win, Jake Smith second, and Carlson on the final podium spot.

The WISSOTA Street Stock feature was turned loose with Jerome Berger and Jon Halvorson sharing the front row. Berger led early, but made a mistake in turns one and two; Halvorson seized the opportunity and led for a while. Shortly thereafter, a couple of incidents affected the field including the frontrunners, and Gust garnered the lead. Once he was in the lead, he was able to pull away and take home the win. He was followed to the finish line by Doug VanMill and Deryk Weleski on the podium.

The WISSOTA Midwest Mods were led to the green by Connor Drewry and Carter Matthews on the front row. Those two stayed within two car lengths of each other throughout the duration of the race. Drewry claimed the lead early and found his line. Matthews tried every line he could to get around the leader, but was unable to make a pass.

Behind the lead duo, there was close and aggressive racing taking place. Aaron Blacklance and Justin Olson traded positions a few times along with Shane Wahl. Out front, Drewry ran an error-free race and took home the win. Matthews was a very close second and Blacklance was third.

In the WISSOTA Modifieds, Ryan Johnson held the pole position and Brody Strachan started second. At the drop of the green, Strachan took the lead. Soon thereafter, Joseph Thomas drove around Johnson and challenged Strachan for the lead. Once he was able to get by, Thomas built a comfortable advantage over second.

Behind them Johnson, Connor Graff, and Patrick Sobolik argued over position. Those cars changed lines and positions a few times before the checkered flew. Thomas continued on to the win, followed by Strachan and Graff on the podium.

In the Four Cylinders, second-row starter Nick McCann had a great start and had the lead out of turn two. Once clear of traffic, he again cruised home to a win with a half-lap lead over second place. Behind him second place looked to be Brooke McCann’s, until a motor issue ended her evening. Nick McCann took the win with Gabriel Espe and Jonah Espe on the podium.
