Jensen and Fossow double up at Princeton while Gierke, Weiss, Gullikson and Larson lead the way in their classes on Friday
By Tami Jo Kuehn
PRINCETON, MN (August 1) - After taking a week off, Princeton Speedway was back in action Friday with a full night of race action. It was Kids and Meet the Drivers night, and fans were treated to double features in a couple of classes due to previous rainouts.
WISSOTA Dirt Track Series winners included Ryan Gierke, Joey Jensen, Mitch Weiss, Jim Gullikson, Brady Fosso and Tyler Larson, while Fosso and Jensen also collected makeup feature wins.
The WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds makeup feature from a couple weeks ago was first on deck. Joey Jensen and Dustin Nelson led the field to green before an immediate caution reset the field.
As the race resumed, Jensen sped off in the lead and never looked back. The remainder of the race ran caution free, with Jensen taking the win. Mitch Weiss, Erik Gruhlke, Ryan Putnam and Kaden Woodie finished in the top five.
Colton Lodermeier and Brady Fosso brought the WISSOTA Hornets to the green for the next makeup feature, with Fosso the early leader. Lodermeier held second and challenged Fosso during the opening laps, but Fosso held the point.
Lodermeier kept pressure on the leader throughout the race and as the white flag waved, the yellow followed and the drivers were sorted out. Fosso brought the drivers back to green and took the win ahead of Tony Jenson, Lodermeier, Bobie Arnes and William Lange in the top five.
Joey Jensen was the early leader in the WISSOTA Super Stock feature, with Dustin Nelson and Doug Koski in tow. Jensen grew his lead to about 2 seconds out front, as Dylan Kromschroeder and Dexton Koch began to challenge Koski for third, and they were three wide for the position. Jensen grabbed the win ahead of Nelson, Koch, Kromschroeder and Koski in the top five.
Thomas Worth claimed the lead as the WISSOTA Street Stocks went green, with Kyle Howland close behind. Howland worked the low groove to challenge Worth, as Jim Gullikson also closed in. Worth felt the heat of Howland and Gullikson as they raced door to door behind the leader; Gullikson passed Worth for the lead as the yellow flag waved.
Gullikson was in command for the restart, with Howland and Worth at his rear. Tommy Pogones made the battle for second three wide, and Pogones advanced into the position. Pogones chased after Gullikson with a few laps to go, but Gullikson sped away and took the win. Pogones settled for second with Worth, Howland and Braedyn Fleck finishing in the top five.
Ryan Gierke was the early leader in the WISSOTA Modifieds, as Bryce Borgen claimed second and Tim Patchen, Eric Lamm and Adam Bohlman raced three wide for third.
Lamm edged out into third, before Dave Cain got by for the spot and then challenged Borgen for second.
After two cautions, Cain and Bohlman went three wide with Gierke for the lead. Gierke held the point and led the race from start to finish to earn the win. Bohlman, Cain, Borgen and Lamm rounded out the top five.
When the WISSOTA Mod Fours went green, Tyler Larson immediately stretched his lead to nearly 2 seconds before the first caution was triggered. Larson continued to lead following another caution, but felt the heat of Rowan Tramm to his bumper. The top two drivers separated from the field, with Tramm not letting Larson out of his sight. Tramm changed his groove during the final lap, but Larson’s line prevailed and he held on for the win. Tramm, Ashton Schwinn, Gerrald Nohner and Blake Hawker completed the top five.
The WISSOTA Midwest Mods were led to green by Mitch Weiss and Kaden Woodie on row one. Drivers raced door to door throughout the field during the opening laps as Weiss pulled away. Dustin Nelson made his way to second, but had Joey Jensen and Woodie alongside him. They were nearly three-wide until Jensen moved ahead for the runner-up spot and looked ahead to Weiss.
The first caution was triggered about the halfway point, and more cautions followed throughout the second half of the race. Jensen kept after Weiss during each restart, eventually using a slider to try to gain the lead, but Weiss remained unflappable and took the victory. Jensen settled for second ahead of Ben Lewis, William Moelter and Nelson in the top five.
Brady Fosso and William Lange brought the WISSOTA Hornets to the green in the final feature of the night. The green waved with Fosso in the lead, and Tony Jenson took second. Fosso stretched his lead at the start, but Jenson was able to close the gap and pulled alongside Fosso. The top two were solidly out front as they remained glued to one another. The final laps passed by and Fosso held the lead to grab his second feature win of the night. Jenson, Arnes, Josh Backstrom and Lange rounded out the top five.
