Strand steals Late Model money on final point night at Devils Lake while Berg and Hess pad their points as well
By Heather MacDonald
CRARY, ND (August 2) - It was the final track point night for WISSOTA Late Models Saturday at Devils Lake Speedway, with WISSOTA Midwest Mods and Street Stocks also part of the program.
Winners in sanctioned action included Dustin Strand, Jory Berg and Trey Hess.
Six points separated Travis Robertson and Dustin Strand coming into Saturday night’s WISSOTA Late Model feature at Devils Lake Speedway. Strand and Robertson led the field to green, with Robertson taking the lead on lap two. He was able to continue holding off Strand after a restart around lap five, but Strand took the top spot following another restart around lap six.
Robertson did not go down without a fight, running side by side with Strand and making several attempts to pass by the No. 71. Joey Pederson worked himself into the mix, along with Tucker Pederson and Brody Troftgruben. There were many three-wide battles throughout the feature race for third and fourth. Joey Pederson eventually challenged Robertson for second, but Robertson held him off. Strand took another trip to victory lane, ahead of Robertson, Troftgruben, Tucker Pederson and Joey Pederson in the top five.
Robertson did not go home empty handed, however, as he won the points championship by two points ahead of Strand.
Jory Berg and Austin Hunter led the WISSOTA Midwest Mods to the green flag, with Hunter leading the first seven laps. Berg used a slide job to get past Hunter in corner one to take the lead, and then cruised to victory lane. It was his third straight win at DLS. Ryne Uhrich advanced three spots to finish third, MaKenna Romuld improved four spots to fourth, and Chris Kruk was fifth.
In the WISSOTA Street Stocks, Trey Hess swept the night, taking the victory ahead of Greg Jose, Drew Peterson, Stoney Kruk and Jordan Barker in the top five.
Waylon Poitra swept the night winning both the heat and the feature in Pure Stocks.
