Dykhoff announced as winner of $30,100 at Rice Lake’s Little Dream Race after disqualification pushes finishers one spot up

RICE LAKE, WI (July 29) - In the wee hours of Wednesday morning, after apparent winner Keith Tourville was disqualified in technical inspection for an engine infraction, second-place finisher Kyle Dykhoff was awarded the win in the 31st annual WISSOTA Street Stock Little Dream race held at Rice Lake Speedway.
A record top prize was awarded to Dykhoff, with $30,100 raised through fan and business contributions for the 40-lap feature win.
After a double set of qualifying heat races, two B features and a Last Chance race - where winner Cody Cimfl opted to start the main event rather than take the payout - 25 drivers took the green flag from starter Sean Cimfl for the 40-lap feature. Tourville, who earned the most passing points in preliminary action, started on the pole and took the early lead over Levi Randt and Dykhoff. Justin Vogel moved to the cushion and started to make time on the top three, when two-time Little Dream winner Nick Traynor slowed and triggered the first yellow flag.
Dykhoff opted for the outside on the Delaware style restart and at the green, Hunter VanGilder spun in turn one, which again triggered the yellow. On the following start, the slowing car of Sam Fankhauser again triggered the yellow.
Finally, full-out racing took place with Tourville pulling away from the pack as he moved to the cushion. The battle for second remained intense though, with Dykhoff and Randt running many laps side by side, joined by Parker Anderson and Kyle Genett in the battle for the runner-up position.
After a dozen consecutive laps were raced under the green, the yellow flew again with 23 laps completed when Vogel was helped into a spin and was restored to his sixth- place position for the restart.
On each green, Tourville pulled away from the field, as he showed great speed and no one seemed able to keep up with him. The battle for second raged on though and with 10 laps to go, Dykhoff continued to edge out Randt at the line, lap after lap.
With 31 laps completed, Anderson slowed with overheating problems and that triggered the yellow flag once again.
Back under green, Tourville misstepped for the first time all night, getting just a bit high in turn one on the restart and Dykhoff dropped to his inside, nearly driving into the lead. They raced hard for a couple laps, but gradually Tourville was able to again edge away.
One more yellow for a stalled car set up a six-lap battle for the win. VanGilder had recovered from his earlier spin and made a strong charge back up through the field, making it to the top five at this point.
Tourville got away from the pack quickly with the green back in the air, and regained a strong lead as he pushed for the finish of the race. The battle for second continued and on the final lap, Randt got just a bit high in turn one; Dykhoff drove under him and VanGilder continued his charge as he roared into third, edging out Randt at the line for a podium finish.
The top cars headed to the tech shed, where tech officials made the determination that Tourville’s engine did not conform with WISSOTA Street Stock rules, so he was disqualified from the event.
Dykhoff was declared the winner, with VanGilder finishing second and Randt third. Jim Gullikson and Kolton Brauer completed the top five. Sixteen drivers completed the event with all of them on the lead lap.
Tourville has filed an appeal, so all results are unofficial until the appeal process is completed.
