Larson lands a big Hornet win at Proctor Speedway’s “Nationals” on Sunday night

PROCTOR, MN (August 3) - The Hornet Nationals was the headlining event Sunday at Proctor Speedway, with $500 on the line to the winner. The program also included the Northern Renegades Non-Winged Sprint Cars, as well as the NVSC Vintage Cars.

Mikayla LaBarge was the early leader of the WISSOTA Hornet feature, with Carson Gotelaere using the inside lane to move past LaBarge and into the lead during the second lap. Selena Owen, Nikota Larson and Bobie Arnes filled out the early top five.

Gotelaere quickly grew his advantage out front, with LaBarge and Owen engaged in a side-by-side skirmish for second, and Fosso working the inside of Arnes and Larson in a three wide battle for remaining top-five spots. Larson and Arnes shook out into third and fourth, as Owen fell back into a fight for fifth with Fosso. The first caution fell for Nathan Penney and the field regrouped.

Gotelaere led the field back to green, with Larson moving into second and LaBarge spinning in turn three while in third in front of the rest of the field.

Back under green, Gotelaere was the leader ahead of Owen and Larson in the second row. Gotelaere continued to lead, with Larson close behind. Owen was under pressure from Fosso for third; Owen pulled back away and secured third. Farther back in the pack, there was two and three-wide racing for top 10 spots.

Out front, Gotelaere and Larson were well out front in a race for the top spot, with Fosso, Arnes and Owen in the top five with four to go.

Larson closed in on Gotelaere for the lead with just two laps to go, as Owen tried to get past Fosso for third. Gotelaere drove on to the checkered flag followed by Larson, Fosso, Arnes, and McKenna Folstad in the top five. After tech inspection, Gotelaere was DQ’d for reasons not available to ATD at press time, elevating everyone one spot in the final official standings. Larson was declared the winner, followed in the top five by Fosso, Arnes, Folstad and Owen in the top five.

In the Sprints, Chris Lewis topped the feature from his pole starting position. Paul Schultz, Zach Olson, Danny Wait, Jr., and Keith Erickson completed the top five.
