Breidenbach becomes a repeat winner & Greseth breaks track record for wins in single season at River Cities

GRAND FORKS, MN (August 21) - Kenna Breidenbach became the first female repeat winner in a WISSOTA division in a season last Friday night at River Cities Speedway in Grand Forks as Cole Greseth also made track history for wins in a single season in the WISSOTA Street Stock division.

Breidenbach and Jory Berg made up the front row to start the 18-car WISSOTA Midwest Mod main event. Breidenbach led the opening lap ahead of Berg and Austin Hunter, who moved from fourth to third as the top three in points also made up the top three circling the speedway.

Berg remained no further than a half second behind Breidenbach as she led through the midway point just 2.5 minutes after the green flag flew. As the race continued to proceed caution free, Breidenbach pulled up to the rear of the field with seven to go and began to make her way through lapped traffic.

She put the first lapped car between herself and Berg on the following lap and continued to lead at the five-to-go mark. On the following lap, the leaders came up on four lapped cars as the entire field ran on the bottom of the race track. Breidenbach continued to protect the bottom line even though she was unable to make her way past any further lapped cars in the closing laps.

Breidenbach held on to win her second of the season at the speedway as the 20-lap race went five straight minutes caution free with the top three separated by just over .3 of a second at the drop of the checkered.

Berg was second with point leader Austin Hunter third. Maddox Klassen and opening night winner Frank Veert rounded out the top five.

It was a battle of the top two drivers all season in the WISSOTA Street Stock division, as Greg Jose and Cole Greseth led the 12-car field to green in the main event. Greseth started on the outside and led the opening lap with Jose slotting into second and John Halvorson in third.

Greseth has been known for taking the lead and pulling away from the field in his previous nine victories at the speedway this season, but that was not the case on this night. Throughout the first half of the race, Jose stayed within a half second of the leader before the first and only caution of the 20-lap event at the midway point.

Jose took a look to the inside of Greseth on the ensuing restart, but Greseth continued to hold the point with Jose shadowing his every move at the bottom of the track as the field cycled around the quarter mile.

Jose was able to show his nose on a few occasions in the final half of the race on the entrances of both turns one and three, but Greseth held the bottom line perfectly as he has all season and continued on to win his single-season, record-tying 10th win of the season at the speedway.

Jose was second, as Halvorson, Doug VanMill and Jeremy Gust rounded out the top five. Greseth’s 10th win of the season at River Cities ties Steffen Snare’s 2008 record for wins in a single season in the division at the speedway.

In other action at the track, Greg Nikitenko won the NOSA Sprint feature, Brandon Rekow won the Winged 305 Sprint feature, and Ryan Braseth was victorious in the Legends feature.
