Gerdes gets the biggest Mod payday as I-94 Speedway hosts Bob Gierke Memorial; other Friday night Fergus Falls winners are Reinke, Agen and Schelitzche

FERGUS FALLS, MN (August 17) - The seventh year of the Bob Gierke Memorial did not disappoint fans. With 27 WISSOTA Mods hitting the track, the action was fantastic as Brady Gerdes picked up the win on Saturday.
Other WISSOTA Dirt Track Series winners included Nate Reinke, Ty Agen and Justin Schelitzche.
The Modified feature started out with Ryan Flaten taking the early lead and looking very good. He was soon joined by Brett Hoium, with Seth Brede and Dan Ebert close behind. Gerdes was also on the way to the front from his fifth starting spot, and took the lead around lap 12. The battle for third was a dandy between Dave Cain and Ebert, as the two swapped spots several times. Gerdes grabbed the big win, with Cain strong in second. Ebert, Flaten and Hoium completed the top five in a very entertaining race.
A very good field of 37 WISSOTA Midwest Mods were on hand Saturday, with 26 starting the feature. Shawn Kelley was very strong as he led the first 12 laps with Taylor Bitzan and Nate Reinke in a real battle for second. Reinke took the lead from Kelley with 14 laps left in the race. Mike Nichols came from his 12th starting spot and passed Kelley third, and then got by a very fast William Moelter for second. Nichols closed the gap on Reinke in the last four laps but came up just short as Reinke hung on for a nice win. Nichols, Moelter, 16th-starter Landyn Randt, and 19th-starter Haley Dykhoff rounded out the top five.
The WISSOTA Street Stocks also provide an entertaining feature week to week, and Saturday didn’t disappoint. Kyle Dykhoff led early, before Justin Vogel charged past him for the lead with three laps completed. With 10 laps left, Eric Riley and Ty Agen joined the battle, with Riley taking the lead from Vogel and Agen getting past Vogel for second. Agen then drove by Riley for the lead and it became a four-car battle, with Jeff Ekdahl joining in. When the checkered flag flew, Agen was the winner ahead of Riley, Ekdahl, Vogel and Levi Randt.
The WISSOTA Hornet feature started with four early cautions, with Justin Schelitzche leading the way under pressure from Christian Kast. National point leader Jeff Rohner had a tough night, starting in 13th, but picked his way forward to battle Schelitzche for the lead. He got by him with about three laps to go, but Schelitzche retook the lead and held on for a one-foot win. Kast, Nick Shirley and Joey Metcalf were top-five finishers.
The Gen X Late Models had a surprise guest, as Scot Danzeisen drove Brad Staples’ car and led a large part of the feature before Joe Thomas caught him. As he was passing him, the two got together, and sent Danzeisen to the pits. Thomas drove on to the win.
I-94 thanks the Bob Gierke family for allowing the track to host this great race. Special thanks to 6th Street logistics,Titan Machinery FM Bank and Sower Power for sponsoring the night. Friday, August 23 will be the Fallen Lineman Mod Special, with all classes running including WISSOTA Late Models, Modifieds, Midwest Mods, Streets, Hornets and Gen X Late Models.
