Peterson and Shaw share the bright spotlight during the 5th annual Howie Schill Memorial at Red River Valley

WEST FARGO, ND (August 15-16) - The 5th annual Howie Schill Memorial was held Friday and Saturday nights at Red River Valley Speedway. Tyler Peterson put forth a dominant effort to score the feature win during the opening night over the field of 47 NLRA Late Models. Don Shaw grabbed a win on Saturday, when the field swelled to 51.

Peterson redrew the inside of the second row for Friday’s 25-lap WISSOTA Late Model main event, and he swept past polesitter Eric Edwards into the lead out of turn four on the opening lap. Peterson pulled away in a hurry, and Brody Troftgruben moved into second on the third lap. Cole Schill — son of Howie — transferred from a B feature and started 21st on the field; he used the inside lane to quickly advance forward and was into the top five by lap eight.

Without a caution flag, Peterson was in thick lapped traffic as the race came to a close. He had led by nearly five seconds with 10 laps to go, but Troftgruben cut that gap to nothing in the final few laps. He was nearly inside Peterson at one point, but the No. 1TPO split a pair of slower cars with less than two to go to seal the win. Troftgruben was second with Shane Edginton third, Schill fourth and 10th-starter Dave Mass fifth.

John Nord slipped by race-long leader Jordan Sours after a late restart to top the IMCA Modified main event on Friday.

Dylan Waxdahl lost the lead twice to two different drivers, but the caution fell both times and restored him to the lead; the third time was the charm on his way to Friday’s IMCA RaceSaver Sprint win.

Tanner Engen turned back mid-race pressure from Jaeden Strandberg to win the IMCA Hobby Stock main event on Friday.

Shaw led early and late to get the Late Model win on Saturday. He reclaimed the lead from Tucker Pederson in the closing laps to win the $2,404 top prize. Pederson was second, Travis Robertson, who led the middle stages of the race, was third with 18th-starter Billy Kendall fourth and Cole Schill fifth.

Tye Wilke recovered from a blown motor on Friday to win Saturday’s Sprint main event. Scott Jacobson rallied from 10th to win the IMCA Sport Mod feature, and veteran racer Rick Schulz grabbed the IMCA Stock Car win on Saturday.
