GRAND RAPIDS, MN (August 14) - Grand Rapids Speedway held another night of Itasca County Fair racing on Thursday, featuring the WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds, Super Stocks, Modifieds and Late Models.
Winners in WISSOTA Dirt Track Series action included Kevin Burdick, Blake Adams, Dustin Nelson and Scott Thompson.
Brant Gruba and Darrin Lawler led the field of WISSOTA Midwest Mods to the green flag, with Tim Jackson and Ethan Elhardt in row two. Lawler took the early advantage with Gruba close in second. Scott Thompson raced into third, relegating Jackson to fourth.

Thompson put the heat on Gruba and moved into second, and then took off after Lawler. Gruba was third with Michael Blevins, Sr. racing in fourth. Behind him, Jackson began to feel pressure from ninth-starter Sam Blevins for fifth.
Back out front, Thompson made the pass on Lawler to the inside and took the lead. Gruba soon began to pressure Lawler for second, just ahead of Blevins. A caution was thrown for a spun competitor.
Thompson led the field back to green, ahead of Gruba and Lawler, but another caution a couple laps later regrouped the field once again.
With the field back under green, Thompson kept out front, with Lawler close behind and challenging low for the lead with six laps to go. Michael Blevins raced the high side looking to get by Lawler, and made the pass with less than a handful of laps to go. Another yellow regrouped the field and just a lap after the restart, the caution reappeared keeping the field at a standstill.
Back under green Thompson continued to lead, with Blevins securing second and Lawler to his inside for the spot; Lawler made the pass for the runner-up position during the final lap. Thompson took his first career win ahead of Lawler, Blevins, Jackson, Gruba and Sam Blevins in the top five.
Dustin Nelson (Jennifer Tomczak Photo)
Chaston Finckbone and Matt Sparby led the WISSOTA Super Stocks to green with Finckbone the early leader. Doug Koski moved into second, just ahead of Dustin Nelson, Dylan Nelson and Sparby in the top five. A caution for a Dalton Carlson spin regrouped the field.
Finckbone had pressure from Dustin Nelson following the restart, with Dustin taking the lead and Finckbone coming under pressure from Koski and Dylan Nelson for second, with Shane Sabraski right on their heels.
In the battle for second, Dylan Nelson challenged Finckbone along the high side of the track, taking second along the frontstretch past the halfway mark of the feature.
Farther back Sabraski moved by Koski for fourth, and then raced ahead to Finckbone in third. Sabraski got by into third with just a handful of laps left.
Dustin Nelson drove away in the closing laps to secure the win, ahead of Dylan Nelson, Sabraski, Finckbone and Koski in the top five.
Blake Adams (Jennifer Tomczak Photo)
Blake Adams, Chris Magistad and Bob Broking were three wide for the lead to complete the first lap of the WISSOTA Modified feature, with Adams inching ahead into the top spot. Broking was close behind along the high side in second, with Sabraski moving to third. Ryan Jensen was fourth and Mervin Castle III was close behind in fifth.
Sabraski took second from Broking and was right on Adams’ bumper for the lead before a caution flag for an errant tire on the track reset the field.
At the halfway point Adams continued to lead, while Sabraski and Broking were side by side for second just behind him. Things were just about to get interesting before a spun Tyler Kintner regrouped the field under yellow.
Adams continued to hold the lead back under green, while Sabraski was able to put distance on Broking. Broking then lost third to Castle half a lap later.
Back out front Adams held off a last-lap charge from Sabraski and drove on to the victory. Sabraski, Castle, Broking and Josh Beaulieu completed the top five.
Kevin Burdick (Jennifer Tomczak Photo)
In the WISSOTA Late Models, Kevin Burdick moved away from fellow front-row starter Billy Kendall in the opening laps, with Johnny Broking and Shane Sabraski side by side for third, and Jeff Provinzino in fifth.
As the laps passed by, Burdick was able to add to his advantage on Kendall, as Sabraski did the same to Broking. The field, for the most part, stuck to the bottom groove and at the halfway point, the leaders began to hit lapped traffic. Burdick moved by with ease, as Kendall came under heavy pressure from Sabraski for second. Broking was fourth and Provinzino fifth. The caution fell over the field for a dustup between Zach Wohlers and Derek Vesel.
Back under green, Burdick continued to lead, with pressure from Sabraski in the turns, and Kendall moving to the inside of Sabraski. Kendall made the pass for second in the waning laps before one final caution regrouped the field for a green, white, checkered restart.
Following the restart, Burdick escaped with the lead ahead of a late-charging Jeff Massingill, who moved into second. Burdick grabbed the victory, ahead of Massingill, Kendall, Sabraski and Broking in the top five.
